Any one else puss out at first
I am a Kaiser patient and it took a year to get from being referred by my regular doc to surgery. I planned all year to have RNY. Was scheduled to have it on a Monday morning and saw my doc for my pre-op appointment the Friday before. Then on Saturday night I wimped out and called my surgeon who was on call that night and asked if I could switch to the Lap-Band. I was banded on Monday morning at 7:30 am and was home by 1:00pm. I woke up in the recovery room feeling so good I asked them if I really even had the surgery. I've lost 52 lbs. since June 1st of this year and am so far pleased with my decision. I know it will be tougher with the band as I don't think it's as good of a tool as RNY, but I made the decision and am determined to make the most of it. Good luck with your journey. BTW this is my first post on the Mens board after lurking for a couple of months. Glad there is such a board.

i wanted the surg back in 03 but with kaiser they wanted me to do a 6 month Dr supervised diet. If I'm going to diet for 6 months I rather not have surg and just diet the rest of my life was the way I saw it. They also wanted me to have RNY and I didn't want that. I wanted the band and it was not approved in the USA yet.
Man am I glad I waited and didn't end up with that band.
Good luck to you. IMHO if you get a voice mail, I'd be changing Dr's

In 2003/2004 I was looking into WLS. I decided to give Weigh****chers a try with my wife. I lost 90lbs and she lost 45lbs. It was a great program while you worked it. Eventually we went off program and gained back all of our weight. I had to have my knee scoped a year ago April (2007) and I didn't bounce back from it like I'd expected. I put on even more weight. Then my PCP told me I was pre-diabetic and put me on high blood pressure meds. I saw the writing on the wall. I'm so glad that I had my RNY.
