Drinking Beer?
Well, since those are carbs, and it's not good to be eating (or drinking) carbs during the "honeymoon period" .. errr .. ![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/shrug.gif)
The other thing is be prepared to get buzzed a lot more easily than before (esp. if you have lost a chunk of weight already) .. and for it to last longer ..
I did an experiment iwth my Intoxahawk Slim and 25 proof wine some time back.
My BAC was .04% (1/2 the legal limit in most states to drive) within 20 minutes with just one 8 oz. glass sipped after a full meal. It took 1 1/2 hours after drinking before I no longer had a measurable amount in my breath.
Since the RNY pouch is even smaller than our sleeve, and RNYers have no pylorus (meaning things go directly from the stomach to the intestines, where most of the alcohol is absorbed, btw) I would think the effect would be even more dramatic and severe with them .

I just know that Dr Foote, who is a well respected weight loss surgeon, does not recommend alcohol or carbonated drinks for the first 6 months to a year. Even then it is extra carbs that will just stall your weight loss or worse bring you back to gaining. WLS is about lifestyle change. Follow this path and we will be reading your future posting of your failure. Now I am not saying no alcohol ever, but you have to severely curtail drinking alcohol to keep the weight off.

A beer a few times a week is being "not careful".
Aside from stuff others have mentioned, there's also addiction transfers to watch out for.

On these boards you have a cross section of society. Many or most were social drinkers. If you had a drinking problem it would have come out in the psych exam. Before you start down that road you really need to read and read about addiction transfer (as high as 30% post op). It's not just the drinking, others will go into sex addictions, exercise addictions (more acceptable in society). shopping, ect. Buddy it is real for WLS patients. When you say you're ready to test the hard stuff...a lot of red flags went up in many peoples minds here. If I were you I would post on the Main Board and get their responces. Or ask if anyone became an alcoholic post WLS...These boards and your local support group will tell you. They have taken away your security blanket (food). You're going to replace it with something. You're at a crossroad here. Not saying to not drink (I have a small amount of wine over the year 1/2 oz at a time...yeh, I know strange). Just saying to walk into this with eyes wide open. Brian
