Mountain Climbing
Hello everyone I posted this on the main board but figured I'd try it here...=),
Ok so this is going to sound crazy but I am looking for insight. I am setting up a team. Before I explain the team let me say that this is a dream of mine and I want to do it now while I am younger and no kids before I settle down.
I have always been fascinated by Mt Everest. Its beauty, It awe, Its challenge. Crazy. Yea I know I am. But I am looking to try and start a team that is going to climb for the support of some charity. I have not decided what. I am not even sure where to begin but I am looking into it.
I have done some mountain climbing post opt and will continue to do so obviously. I am climbing Mt. Rainer in May 2010 which is approx 14,000 feet than maybe Kilimanjaro in 2011 with another in there. I want to do climbs in support of a charity.
My questions are random. First....Does ANYONE know how to even start something like this? Also, does anyone have an idea of how this will affect a post opt patient? The company I've spoken to has no clue because they have never had anyone do it but they said "If your doc says your good we do not challenge them" They are a reputable US based company who has put over 300 people on the summit in like 10 years....So 30 a year isn't bad.....
Just wondering if any of u all knew how to even start the charity part? Or what to do from a physical stand point?
And also, I am that idiot that went to Antarctica 6 months after his RNY...=)...Gotta love my random ideas

Sounds like you have unlimited funds. Climbing on the scale you describe cost mucho $$$$$$$.
I'am planning a trip to Kilimanjaro + 4 days in the bush with my son in 2011. Cost $20500. Asked my surgern for sponsorship in this, examplifying WLS , his procedures and successes. Ha, not in his budget
Everest is another story. With all the latest gear and support they want u to think its an uphill walk in the snow. My heart and lungs would fail before base camp and my rush days are behind me
Good luck on this adventure and hope u can find a cause and sponsors

I am of no help here. The highest I go up in the mountains is as high as the big game go. Way up there at the top of the world there is nothing to hunt. I figure that if none of God's other creatures are up there, I don't belong up there either.
