Has any men had sucess with LAP-BAND
John, I am banded. So far I have lost 111 lbs in almost 2 years but I also cheated so it impaired my weight loss. Deciding what type of WLS is truly a personal decision between you and your doctor. I did many hours of research before I decided that the band was what I wanted. A friend of mine had RNY and hes doing terrific. Best suggestion I can offer is to go to those seminars and get all the info that you can. Another friend has diabetes and was banded. His diabetes receded but its coming back. I personally chose the band because its something that can be reversed if needed. Best advice is to do your research thoroughly.....
"On the road that I have taken, one day, walking, I awaken,
amazed to see where I have come, where I'm going, where I'm from".

I'm much younger than you (30), and I don't have diabetes. But I'll tell you my thought process. I'm getting VSG, aka the sleeve.
The bypass is a good procedure. But for me, I didn't like the rerouting of the intestines that occurs in bypass. Malabsorbtion has a price, and I didn't care for it.
I didn't like the lap-band because I know too many people who have failed with it. Fills are a pain, and sometimes there are complications, bad ones. Some people love their band, but it's not for me. Never was an option.
The sleeve has the lowest complication rate. It has similar success rates to bypass and the band. It is not reversible, however. It's a good tradeoff for me.
If I had bad diabetes and my insurance would cover it, I'd consider RNY. But I'm cashpay and the sleeve is both cheaper and makes much more sense for me.

John I'v been banded for quite a while now. I have lost 125 lbs and have kept it off for over three years now. I only wish I had done it sooner.

Nick,
Since when are women forbidden to post on the men's forum?
Vicki was just trying to help. She wasn't making rude comments about your anatomy.
If you want women barred from the men's forum, ask OH to make it private. Someone would have to volunteer to be a moderator and screen out anyone who's "split" in the wrong place, of course.

You women have all 50 states, 30 weight loss related, 10 surgery, 15 international, 8 medical related, 4 off topic, and all the surgery date forums to post in. Then you have the main forum too. On top of all those forums you have to post in you stand here *****ing why you can't post in the mens forum about a man topic.. Please tell me how you are qualified to answer man issues..
This is our bathroom, locker room and man cave.. My balls itch today do you know what the cause is?

Oh, cry me a river. You manly men sure are sensitive!
You men have all 50 states, 30 weight loss related, 10 surgery, 15 international, 8 medical, 4 off topic, all the surgery date forums, the main WLS forum, AND your very own forum/toilet to post in. You guys can post in the pregnancy forum for all I care. Have at it.
I'm truly sorry if my post on this forum earlier today didn't make it clear that Vicki was just trying to help the original poster. She wasn't here to bash guys, complain about her husband or boyfriend or son or President Obama or any other creature burdened with a set of balls.
It's not my problem if male OH members want a private forum and can't persuade OH to set up moderators for it. I make absolutely no claim that I'm qualified to answer "man issues", but I know Vicki and I am qualified to say that she came to this forum with no agenda other than a sincere desire to help another member of any sex.
