I am 61 years old, 80#, BMI 39. I am seriously considering the VSG but i was hgoping to get an answer from a male on this question - so many females.

ASSUME everything goes well and 8 mo. later I am down to 210. Of course my eating will need to be greatly moderated but if my wife and I go away to Vermont for a weekend at an Inn, will I be able to go to dinner at the restaurant and eat regular food, even if very very small portions? Can I tolerate a salad? Chicken? Potatoes? I would love to get some feedback from someone who has "been there, done that". I guess I am wondering what it is like 2 to 3 years out. And any insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I'm only a year out, and I had the DS. The stomach part of the operation is the same. After about 6 months I could eat what ever I wanted. I try to eat clean (Atkins) and focus on my protein first. Not because I want to lose more weight I just struggle with getting enough protein in a day. I still hate the shakes for the most part.
With a VSG you will have a normal functioning stomach(just a very small one)  and should be able to eat anything you ate prior to WLS.
Not cleaning your plate and throwing food away takes some getting used or did for me anyway.
Good luck on your journey.

I had RNY but i eat salads and even Ribs. Just small portions. I eat out 3 times a week and have no problem except the stares when I say I dont want a drink with it.

I was 57 when I had the surgery
