Greetings-Or how the hell are you
Joined these forums a few weeks back , and just found the mens forum...
Ex-Police Officer turned Engineer AKA BiGjeff , trying to lose the big reference and like all you know the story have tried it all. but just when I thought I was out the dam buffet keeps pulling back in.
Over the last year I have sat in on two local presentations on WLS , and at first considered the band, however over recent months have swayed my decision to the gastric sleeve.
I have been lurking reading, watching videos , all looks great. I have tentative schedule for Sept 9th for Dr. Alverez outside of San Antonio TX in Mexico . I have been working with his liaison over the last few weeks.
What should i expect pain wise after the surgery . and recovery time.
I will keep lurking and reading,
thanks

Welcome to the losers club. Follow the Docs simple instruction (English version) and you will writing this to a newbee in 12 mos.
Any invasive surgery has a little pain. Good drugs will take care of that. Last only a few days. Most of the other pain will be between the ears. Things like buffets, beer all the comfort stuff that got you to this forum. Thats the hard pain. We are the pills for that or should I say, we will help.
Good luck and post you WLS date

Welcome...glad you found us. Pain...I would say I was in pain for 2-3 days (not bad but it was pain). After that is was more discomfort for the next week or so. Also during this time you might face alittle buyers remorse (what have I done to myself). Soon the weight drops and you'll know why. One of the funny things about this surgery, your emotions will start flying. You have alot of estrogen stored in your fat cells. They get released quickly. A lot of guys aren't expecting it, so it takes them by surprise. I was back to work in 3 weeks. But I was losing 1 1/2 pounds a day. It really can take it out of you. I would say to start back to work doing 1/2 days...4-5 hours. See how you handle that. The nice thing about the sleeve (if I'm correct) is if it's not effective over the years you can proceed to the DS later...A lot of options. Stay tuned. Brian
You are doing the right thing. Take action. If I could do it over, I would have done ot 10 years sooner!! I found and still find inspiration in looking at the before and after pictures and checking out the profiles of the terrific folks that post.
May I also recommend your state forum and the Weight Loss Related, Exercise and Fitness forum for profiles to checkout of successful WLS post-op people. A number of the guys over there started and still occassionally post here on the Mens Board too.
This Mens Forum was an absolute essential during my immediate pre-op and post-op recovery. So much good advice and humor,... but you could ask about anything anytime and somebody would rise up to help. Sometimes a poke in the eye or a kick in the butt but always helpful. Its a terrific board.

I had the sleeve and pain is a per person thing.. I had no pain, took no meds before or after for pain.. Sorry I am no WUSS.. There was a slight discomfort and I slept sitting up for about 9 days.
So if you have a high tolerance for pain then you are fine.. If you cry over a bee sting better consider jenny craig..
A liquid diet a few weeks before surg will ease the pain, shrink the liver and the stomach. Also helps with a speedy recovery.. Makes things easy when they do the procedure..
Welcome to the site..... Dont be a stranger lurker

When you are thinking about the "what if's" what if I don't take action is the appropriate one to worry most about. It's a roller coaster ride for sure, but you will be gald you did it in the end and will wonder why you were such a moron not to do it sooner. we all feel that way.
Good luck and congratulations on your surgery date.
