How about calories?
Hey guys. Been a while. I'm curious how many calories you guys get in a day. I've recently started gaining a few pounds back, so I'm starting to watch my intake more carefully...and I got a cool iPod Touch app that tracks my food.
So, what stage of WLS life are you in, and how many calories do you consume...AND is it working for you.
Thanks dudes,
Jake

Heya Nick! Good to hear from ya. I still do my morning interval running, but I've gotten lax with the carbs. I'm an artisan bread baker, and went through a french / italian phase. I'm guessing I ought to stick with denser whole grains if I'm gonna keep baking. It just relaxes me so. Something about the kneeding, and smell of yeasty dough.
I've been weighing and measuring my food since mid Jan. While maintaining 1,600 to 1,800 cal per day, I've lost 50 lbs from 01-29-09 through 06-22-09. My starting weight was 391 and my last measured weight was 341. I haven't been weighed since then. Note that I get very little exercise. I assume that someone who even gets moderate exercise would lose weight quicker. I tried going down to 1,400 cal but I just couldn't do it. I suggest staying at my range of caloric intake even if you increase physical activity. Our brains really start playing games on us if we try to justify extra calories due to more exercise. I'm not having that problem now but it's been a problem for me in the past.
I went from 408 to 224 and to a 40 pants initially my first year then stabilized at 234 and pretty much stayed there for almost a year. Then I had a hip issue that took me off my exercise outine of walking, jogging, and running events. During that 8 months I shot up to 272 but stayed in a tight 44 pants, because I was taking in too many calories and carbs I wasn't burning up anymore without the running. I got back to basics; protein, water and as of Memorial Day this past May go back to walking and jogging. The weights is coming back down slowly but slowly means long term like initally, a little each week. I am at 264 and the 44s are getting comfortably loose. So I don't weight too often but am more concerned about clothing size and can usually tell from my feet and ankles if I'm doing OK in the weight category. My calories are now in the 1400-1600 range with running 2-6 miles 4-6 days a week again. With the carbs I had added before the hip spur and lab scope repair, I was taking in 2000-2600 calories and occassional closer to 2800-3000 when I was throwing in a few cookies and/or Dark Choco Mint Musketeers.
I am off the hard stuff again and back on what got me down to 224 before; scrambled egg whites with some cheddar, oatmeal with a banana and protein powder is a breakfast staple, fruit and protein powder smoothies with some juice and ice, shrimp, Pure Protein Chocolate Deluxe protein bars, Wendy's chili, baked potatoes with cheddar; the old stand-bys,....and 4-6 water bottles a day. P&Pee (protein and water).
Stay in the game man, you have done too well tool ong to blow it. Kudos for asking for advise!

Couch 2 5 K. It might be all run together Couch25k. It's a three time a week interval training program that lays on top of whatever music you're listening to. It tells you when to walk, when to run, cooldown. I really like it.
I also like the PODRUNNER:INTERVALS podcast, which is free from iTunes. There are three levels (5k, 8k, 10k). The first is nine weeks. I don't know how long the others are. It's very techno-centric, electronic music. Easy to drone on and out during a run!

I'm 18 mos out and stand 6'6".... I ate about 1000 calories a day for the first 10 months until I hit goal (235 lb loss). With my current actiivity level thedailyplate says I should be eating 3200-3700 calories per day to maintain my weight of 215 lbs....I usually end up around 2500-2700 calories through my 6 meals and have been maintaining, not losing for about 8 months now...but calories is just part of the equation, I also get over 200 grams of protein (from actual food) and about 70-90 grams of fat, mostly from nuts, soybeans and lean meats.....
-Adam - 6'6" - From 450 lbs to GOAL in 9 months...
Phase 1: Completed 10/2008.
Phase 2: Weightlifting - Goal: Add 40 lbs of muscle. Completed 2/15/2011.
Phas 3: Cut to 10% body fat.

I'm 3 1/2 years post op DS, and have been maintaining at 190-195 range for almost 2 years. I eat about 4 to 5 thousand calories a day, and somedays as high as 6k. At this point postop, I really don't count calories, I don't weigh myself, but I go on "feelings". If I feel my pants getting a bit tight, I drop my carb intake a bit and the weight falls off.

It's probably because i'm so early out (2+ months), but I couldn't imagine trying to eat 2k+ plus calories a day. I literally have to FIGHT to get in 1000 calories a day, lmao. But i'm sure as I get a couple of years out, my stomach will hold much more. I'm afraid of getting to that point, because I don't want to over do it and end up back where I started. I just need to learn the best habits now while I can only eat so little, then hopefully when that time comes, I'll eat more calories but RIGHT calories. :)
