Birthday today - so what??
Hey, Bob -
Been a while (again) since I've posted. Today's been the first time in quite some time I've even lurked on the Men's board. But I saw your post, and i had to say two things.
First - Happy Birthday! WIth the steps you've taken, you've got a lot more of them coming!
Second - I feel exactly what you were saying. I can still remember, very clearly, at one point when I was fighting for my surgeries, having a pulminologist ask me, "Are you ready to bite the bullet?" Essentially, the conversation ended with that, after he told me that I might die during the surgery, but if I don't have it done, I'd be dead by the time I was 40 anyhow.
July 23, I turn 41, so I get to give that ******* a big middle finger for making my wife cry.
So I feel exactly what you're saying. 41? So what. I'm healthier, more active, and most importantly I FEELyoung. I feel better than I did in my teens and twenties.
I'm with you - I'll never tell anyone what they should do. For me, this was the path I needed to follow. July 25th is my three year anniversary of my RNY. I'm down 400 lbs, and looking forward to another 50 - 60 years.
At least.

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body—but rather a skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, ‘Wow, what a ride!’ ? —anon.
