Blueberries

Ah, it's the time of the year I personally look forward to the most.  I just love blueberries and used to be able to eat as many as I wanted without care.  Then I found I have an atrial fibrilation and had to watch foods high in vitamin K.  Last year I couldn't get my coumadin levels steady so I had to cut back on the blueberries.  But this year my primary is monitoring my coumadin and has me at a good level.  I just saw him last week and mentioned that I love blueberries and asked if I should restrain myself in eating them.  He said my levels are fine and I could just go out and eat what I like.  I eat about 10 lbs (10 pints) of blueberries a week in season.  I just go down to the nearby farm and buy them by the 10 lb box.  I'm too old and out of shape to go and pick them myselff even though I know they're cheaper that way and everyone knows that a lot go into the mouth without even going in the bucket to be weighed.

Hope it works out for you.  I love berries and had a rough time 2 mos out, but will try later this month.  Wifey brings them home and eats them like popcorn.  Help me. I cant stand it
Good luck

I never ate blueberries prior to surgery but now I eat them every day. If not fresh then frozen ones. I mix 1/2 cup of Kashi High Protein cereal, 1 small container of no sugar added apple sauce, 1 small container of Kroger Carb Control Vanilla Yogurt and about 1/3 cup of blueberries. Oh yeah I also mix in 2 heaping Tbl spns of Milled flax seed. Makes a great breakfast or when you want some thing a little sweet.

I do a lot of running so I get good carbs, protein, omega 3's, natural anti-inflammatories, also calcium and vitiamins.

I started off just eating the yogurt and cereal together then added the flax seed for the fiber and omega 3's. Then thought that a little apple sauce might be good and then later threw in some blueberries. I have a high tolerance for sugar. If 16.5 is to much then leaving out the apple sauce cuts that in half and reduces the carbs as well and  you still get the fiber and protein.

Just wanted you to know I appreciated this post.  I have been eating the Kashi, but didn't think to mix it with yogurt instead of skim milk.  I'm leaving out the apple sauce, will look for Carb Control yogurt when my current supply runs out (no Krogers around here), and we keep milled flax seed in the fridge.  Thanks!

I got the idea here. I think it was former Men's Forum guru Dx. I keep the milled flax seed and walnuts both in the fridge. Walmart has a generic or store brand yogurt that is very similar to the Kroger brand. I think it may be listed as a "lite or light yogurt". It's not bad and they have lots of different flavors.
