Good point on the burp. Never thought of that although I do do that.

I know I went through the same thing this weekend. There's just something about the 4th of July and BEEEEEEEEEEEEEER..
Im a Bandie so I cant say that this is so for RNY.. But, empty calories as someone else just said is just one issue.. And Keep in mind that the carbonation is the real enemy for us. Remember high school science class when they put the balloon over the soda bottle and the balloon blew up.. Well the carbonation will cause the same type of reaction to your pouch. So unless you want to drink flat beer.. (Ewwwwwww) I wold avoid it not just because of the calories but because of it effect on your stomach.

The 4th is what brought this on. I was at a friends and they offered beer to me and made me think about it. I didn't have one just stayed with my water but was wondering for the future.
Good visual with the balloon

I gave it up.  Did'nt do me any good except pushing my buz to fuz faster and helping me get fatter.
And I lost my taste for it after WLS.
Good luck

I have heard it takes a lot less to get a buz, and it happenes a lot faster.
Our tastes do change.

my surgeon doesn't have a problem with carbonation, he feels that if there is a lot of pressure from excess carbonation it will not stretch the pouch but rather give you gas which you will either burp up or fart down.  he still recommends against drinking any carbonated beverages solely on the caloric issues however.

personally, i've had beer on occasion (and even whooped it up once or twice in the last 6 months), but as a person who tracks every calorie on livestrong/dailyplate, it becomes pretty clear that drinking beer has to be an infrequent thing due to the calories involved.
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Be careful drinking alcohol as a post-op, as the experience won't be quite the same as before, due to the "re-arrangement" of the insides.  In fact, I did an experiment over the 4th weekend, using some Rossi Paisano wine and my little personal intoxilyzer I bought for the experiment (an Intoxahawk Slim).

I posted the results of my test on the DS forum yesterday, but to sum it up here, I drank 8 oz. of 11.5% (23 proof) wine after a full pasta and bread meal.   My BAC went to .04% (1/2 the legal limit in most states) within just 20 minutes (the soonest the machine will let testing be done, after drinking, btw).  It stayed in measureable amounts in my breath until almost an hour and a half after drinking, before going to 0%.

btw, I'm going to try repeating it on an empty stomach, and later do another test to see how much I have to drink after a meal to reach .08% level.
