Questions and Pondering

Hey Guys;
I'm looking forward to a day when I can have a beer. I have heard some say wait a year, six months etc. Any thoughts? I'm not a big drinker but might like to have a beer or two a couple times a month. I have heard the carbonation(sp) in bad too.
I have lost about 75-80 pounds (I only step on the scale about once a week) and have noticed the "boys" have started dropping down lower when I sit down. I guess my fatter thighs held them up before and now they have more room. So now I'm shifting things around some.
Does anyone ride ATV's. I live in the sticks of KY and the (we call'em 4 wheelers) things are everywhere. I had one a few years ago and may get another. Just wondering if anyone has had any trouble riding post surgery.
That goes for amusement park ride too.
Thanks,
David

I have decided to never drink beer again. Too many calories and I didn't go through this process to ever turn back. But, as far as ATVs go I guess I am the guy to talk to. I own 3 and have a hunting ranch in Wyoming where I ride. I was on my ATV six weeks after surgery. Put 500 miles on mine last year, 200 miles in one trip exploring and scouting in Wyoming.

Guess that answers the question on ATV's. Thaanks. I guess that is a lot of cals in beer. Maybe I'll try that 6o some cal beer that's out there after a few more months.
Thanks,

As far as beer goes, my surgeon said no carbonated beverages ever!! I've heard that after a year once in a while is ok, But like Nick wrote, that's a lot of empty calories. I've decided to stay away from all alcohol.

As far as amusement park rides, all I'm waiting for is the chance to go. probably go to Islands of Adventure next weekend.

Guess we can do without the calories. I think I was told that WLS would be an axe on beer come to think of it.

I understand the caution about not having carbonated beverage right after surgery.  However, eventually your stomach will heal although it will be much smaller.  You can have carbonated beverages but try to just sip them and drink them slowly.  I know most people will disagree with me on this, but I had WLS friends point out that there are 2 openings to our stomachs.  Ever hear of a burp or belch?  It's a way of releasing gas that does not involve stretching the stomach.

Hey, I was not making any statement about beer. I was just saying that I am not a good source of information to answer that question. Just because I choose to give up beer, and I am not fanatic about it, does not mean I think everyone should. I am sorry if I gave that impression.

I don't think anyone got the wrong impression.
I was told a glass of wine might be OK ever now and again. But that's calories too.

Nick, I hope I posted my reply so that I was replying to the original post.  Personally, I was never a beer drinker but I do drink diet soda--slowly and usually on ice.  I didn't go back to it until about 6 mos post-op at which time I was told my stomach was at it's new normal size.  My surgeon had said that when you have an RNY the pouch is about the size of your thumb and that it grows to about the size of your fist in about 6 months.  I rarely even have a sip of any type of alcoholic beverage because of my medications.  My shrink has warned me about having even 1 drink.

Knowing that the 4th of July is the day that the most beer is consumed in the year made me think of my nephew.  He started doing his own home brew while he was in law school.  I wonder if he still has the time to do his own micro-brews.  I know there is a small amount that you can legally brew for self-consumption.
