I must be the oddball.  All of my friends and family are very supportative, in fact looking like I am below 200lbs is as good a being there.  I've made most of my life choices and now in for the ride
Good luck

I have noticed 3 or 4 friends that won't speak now but 8 or 10 that are a lot more friendly so maybe it goes both ways. I have no idea why people are like that

While my best friend wasn't outwardly unsupporting of my surgery, I have not seen him, but once, in the year and a half since. We were like brothers. We grew up in each other's family. All of my aunts and uncles were like aunts and uncles to him, as all of his were to me. I know the weight loss surgery has put distance between us. I figure in time things will get back to normal. Heck I have a hard time adjusting to the new man in the mirror. Hang in there, over time they may come around. Remember, we have changed, but, we were preparing, in advance, for that change. They have had change thrust upon them. Change, for most people, isn't easy.

My wife and I had a couple friends distance themselves from us when we told them about our plans for WLS, they have since come around.  I think many people see our losing weight as a reminder of them being overweight.  We also make them uncomfortable because we are doing something to control our weight and making a commitment, when they don't exercise or eat a healthy diet.

Have we changed, yes, but we are basically the same people.  We have shifted our focus away from food.  It really amazes me to see how some of our friends have food as the center of their life (we used to be just like them).  We have our life focused on healthy choices.

Hopefully your friend will come around

Most of my friends were supportive.  I did have one coworker who did/and  still does call it "the easy way", but I don't give a damn.

I didn't have any real issues with it but losing weight definitely changes the dynamic in any group.  Luckily, I didn't have any friends to start so it wasn't an issue.
