Do we lie or tell the truth??

I don't tell people I had WLS, the only people that knew at the time I was losing weight was my wife and 1 of my 4 siblings. Everyone else found out 2 years later when I showed up to visit 300 lbs thinner...then they kind of guessed.

as for the horror stories...well i tell them I had the DS, which is a different surgery and it has a 95 percent success rate long term out 15 years.

Thats a topic that has come up in my support group A LOT lately and I'm always surprised at the answer from some people.. There are MANY who feel that its no one Else's business and there for will just respond with a statement like "DIET AND EXERCISE" quite honestly that's ain't very far from the truth..
But, I've aways maintained the position of honesty.. I mean friends families co-workers if they're asking then that means they care about what is happening to you and lets be honest if you've lost a significant amount of weight in a relatively short span of time they probably already figured it out. So respond honestly in my opinion.. If you dint they're going to wonder and really you dont want speculations.. But, beprepared to answer some quetsions.

    Whenever I tell this I am so misunderstood I must predicate by saying that I understand that many people can not and do not want to bare the slings of negative comments. I do not blame them for lying about LS. In their shoes I would lie, too.
    I decided, before my surgery that I was never going to hide the fact that I had LS. I want everyone to know. I know I am a thick skinned barbarian. I do not get upset with the ignorant comments and remarks made by people who don't have a clue in the world as to what are talking about. I tell total strangers in public, I don't care. If they want to know more, I tell them. If they don't care, that's OK. If they want to tell me horror stories or want to tell me what a mistake I made, I just smile and say, "Time will tell. But, I out live you I promise not to celebrate anyway. If I don't that's up to you."
     I did once react to one real jerk, he kept trying to see how far he could go to scare me. Like after the fact that matters! "What are you going to do when you can't stop losing weight or can't eat food and start starving to death?", he asked. My reply was, "Drink human blood, you've got plenty, and it is so full of nutritious protein and all the vitamins." I followed with, "Why do you think there are so many modern day Vampires."
    Hey, seemed like he'd believe anything. He's one of those guys that believes in every conspiracy, urban legend, strange creature and alien story. Hell, for all I know Dennis Rodman really is his father and ET really is his mother.

How well I know the person, indicates how much I will tell and how vague I will be.  I am pushing 4 years out now so it doesn't come up much but it still does occationally. 

I usually tell the whole story but if I know I am talking to someone who is fishing for **** to blab around I will go with the eat less and exercise more routine.  It makes for a short conversation except, like what someone else said, you are the expert and have to give advice to everyone on weight loss.
