Do we lie or tell the truth??

I've noticed most people dont  have a clue what WLS is all about.  They still think of it as a quick fix or easy way out with horror stories.  Supprised, no.  My wife is an epileptic and still has to fight the stigma attached to it. My brother is obese and has been told he's lazy and selfish.

We had friends over last night and they commented on my weight loss.  How did you do it etc?/  I know these people and may have pre-judged them.  I lied and said I was on  a Doc experimental diet.  **** did I dig a hole.  They kept after me and I kept digging. Finally my wife threw in the towel and said I had WLS.  Silence fell over the group.  And then they started on WLS failure stories of friends and family.  I said it was a life style change and the WLS was just a 48 hour procedure.  I said no matter what type of surgicial re-arranging a person has, failure can occur. I'am willing to take the chance.  The party changed its tone and we all ate and drank the night away.
Never again.  I have been open with all my friends and family.  I blew it last night and learned a lesson.
Anyone else wonder what the answer to the weight loss will be??

I know, now everyone wants advice on weight loss from me.  I'm like WTF.  I don't know what to tell them.  I kinda just say I watch what I eat and work out now.

If I tell them about the Surg then I have to sit and explain it and I am tired of that..

I always tell, if asked, Lber ..   How else can we pay it forward if we're afraid to even admit we have had it ourselves to others?        Your success story may convince someone else to look into WLS and have it, and maybe save a life in the process ..       (even if they don't, we need more "success stories" out there to counter the "bad stories" floating around about WLS, anyway

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

HW/461 LW/251 GW/189 CW/274 (yep, a DS semi-failure - it happens :-( )

I tell the truth if they dont like or have stupid staments I like shooting them down lol as far as  the fish bowl pattern I get kick out of that becuase I like setting them  up people go as far as buying me lunch to see how much I eat so we go to lunch and I order the largest most expensive thing I can find eat a cup worth and ask for go box then thank them for lunch for the week lol they never come back for second round lol.

It is no use saying "we are doing our best." You have got to succeed in doing what is necessary.

I'am pretty much resigned to tell the truth.  Like the lunch gig.  Going to a wedding Sat and will take some tupperware.  1 free cup + 5 more free meals = priceless

My boyhood best friend had RNY a year and a half before I did.  When people asked him he told them he lost the weight with diet and exercise.  He was embarrassed that he needed help to lose weight.  When I had the surgery I told everyone from the start that I had WLS, and to this day almost 5 years post I still see people that I haven't seen since I was fat and I tell them the truth.

My friend felt liberated after he saw how much easier it was to just tell the truth.  He felt so liberated that when he finished his first Triathlon he contacted the Bariatric Center and became their poster child.  His before and Triathlon pictures are up all over town on billboards and commercials.  The hospital even has them on the place-mats in their restaurant.

You don't need to argue or explain why you decided to do it, Just say you did.  Most will understand and ask a few questions - be honest, but the people that act all high and mighty about what a bad choice you made are not your real friends and it would be best for you to distance yourself from them.

I've Been There Done That !!!  Some people are friends with you because they think you make them look good, suddenly they are jealous of how easy it was for you to lose weight even though they never payed enough attention to realize how hard it is or what you have given up for the weight loss.  And trust me you have given up eating normally for the rest of your life - hopefully that is a very long time.

You will be surprised the next few years who stands by you and really cares, and who disappears from your life.

The truth is always the best policy. It's your life, your body, your decision, and who cares what their opinions are? Besides, we all know what opinions are like anyways.   Just my "opinion"!

It's been 2 1/2 years since I had surgery and it all depends on the situation. There are times that I see some one that hasn't seen me in years and asks me about my weight loss. If I have time to go into it, then I do. I will answer all their questions. If I am in a hurry and know I don't have time to go in depth about it I just tell them it's clean living. If some how it comes up in conversation then I will talk about it all they want.
