A couple of questions

I have a couple of questions:

1) What should I be looking for when buying protein bars. I haven't tried any yet, but I could use something for when I'm on the go. (Which is a lot more now post surgery).

2) Is there a good website to track food intake to track nutrition??

Just trying to figure an easy way to track the foods I eat and know the protein and calories I have eaten.

Mike,

Can't help you on #1 but for #2 try dailyplate.com.  I think that is where you can track everything.

Try the low surgar "Detour"  Bars available at Wal-Mart.  15 grams whey protein, 3 grams sugar, and 170 calories.  Tastes like a snickers bar.  Box of 6 for $6.25 in my area.  I do a double whey protein shake for breakfast (forty grams protein) and then do a protein bar as an afternon snack.  Gets me to 55 grams before I figure in lunch or supper.   www.detourbar.com

1) For a smaller portion, I use the South Beach cereal bars available in most grocery stores - 10 gm protein, 140 calories.  Various flavors available in boxes of five

For a meal replacement, I use Premier Protein bars from Sams Club - 30 gm protein, 290 calories.  They come in a box of 15 with three flavors mixed in.

2)  I used FitDay.com - which also tracks exercise.  I used it religiously for about three weeks, then decided that for the amount of effort it took to keep it up, I will use it periodically for a couple of weeks at a time as needed.  As long as I am losing a few pounds a week, I'm not going to obsess over the software.

I'm not a candy eater so I don't like the peanut butter bars, I prefer the Ka****LC Bars.  The sugars they use in all of their products are all natural so we can digest them and our bodies can use the nutrients.

Protien 6g,  Carb 25g, Fiber 4g.  I use these for a snack, or for a meal if I am on the run.

Thanks guys. I'll try some of both and decide which I prefer. I'm leaning towards the kashi bars because I'm trying to avoid choclate. That was one of my biggest addictions with food. Dina says she can hide it but I always find it.(LOL) Now we don't have it in the house. Only exception is Unjury Chocolate flavored protein powder. I like it in my coffee.

I use Pure protein bars, most are around 20 Grams Protein for about 200 Cals.  I get them at Walmart about $6 or $7.

I use Weight by Date software.  It is both PC and Palm PDA and the two will synch.  It tracks what you eat, weigh, exercise as well as waist, arm, leg measurements.  It will estimate the time to meet your goal weight based on WL to date.  It will also track seveal different nutrients, protein, carbs, many minerals and vitamins.
