Hey guys... new to the"men" forum but I've got a sports related question. I am three weeks out from VSG and feeling great... lots of walking. I'm down 50 pounds  preop diet and surgery...I am an avid golfer...when can/should I go back to playing again?

Hard to say.  You don't want to hurt the healing process with all the cuts that have been made.  I would wait till at least 6 weeks...check with your doctor.  I will say the one time I went back and played, I had lost about 10-20 yards on my distance (driver).  I had lost muscle mass, so I couldn't drive the ball as far.  Very frustrating.  Also know the signs of dehydration...esp with a lot of walking and the hot summer coming up.  Brian

Great point...I'm in So. Florida and the humidity plus heat will dehydrate you quickly. Steve

I had an open incision VBG w/ R&Y on April 20, 2009.  My surgeon cleared me to play golf on June 2nd.  He said I was good to do most things w/ using common sense, no playing linebacker for the Colts though, lol !!!!!!  I'm ready to get back out there and hack em around.  I played quite a bit up until about two years ago.  I had a handicap of 18.3, I would usually shoot around 78- 84 on my home course where I was a member but every now and then I would come in with a mid 90's score and get me some more handicap, lol.   I hope you get back out there soon, make sure you check with your surgeon first.  Good luck !!!!

Try a driving range.  You may be suprised.  Take lots of water, pain meds, protein shake, extra balls, hiking boots. Thats what they told me Pre and post op
The swing will tell. I cut back on my playing time.  It cost me a buck a day  and I'am in the middle of a recession up here
Good luck

I was cleared to golf after 6 weeks. I should have went to the range first. Who would have thought losing 100 pounds would f up your gollf swing and stance. My golf game is a work in progress.
