STUNNED and NUMB - Just lost a good friend

While they don't know the cause of death yet, I'm pretty sure they will do an autopsy. I think it's mandatory in Alabama whenever someone dies unexpectedly. The thing that I wonder is since he had a low-grade fever for a day or two, could he have had some kindd of infection from his surgery. We'll just have to wait for the official finding though. Regardless of the cause, it really sucks to lose a friend. I am totally bummed out over this.  I can only imagine how the wife, kids and grandkids feel. They were all so excited for him and his "new life" he was embarking on.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers fellas. And thanks for being here to listen.

I add my condolences and prayers for you and your friend's family.  This is one of those moments when "it sucks" is just about the only good response we can make.

If they do an autopsy, his wife might be able to ask if it was related to WLS.  Anything we try to guess about here is simply a guess.  If his wife shares the information with you, I'm sure we would love to hear.

In the meantime, we grieve with you even as you celebrate his life and give thanks for your friendship.
Onward and DOWNward,

I'm very sorry to hear that. My condolences go out to them and you as well. It could've been Peritonitis, though. That's a life threatening possibility.

Dropper, what kind of cancer does your friend have?

If pancreatic, I encourage anyone in that situation to look into the "Whipple Procedure" .   That operation is saving many patient's lives these days, if done quickly and competently .   There aren't that many surgeons who do it, though.  Presby Hospital here in Dallas does one of the most successful jobs in the nation with it, however.

For brain cancer, I would strongly advise patients get their behinds to Duke U. Hospital for some of the stuff they are working on right now.   I had a client who made a full recovery there after being put on a trial drug there at Duke a couple of years ago.

Anything else, cancer patients should head to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston (hard to get into, but be persistent) for one of their new experimental drug treatments.   I had an old friend that had advanced jaw and throat cancer.  The other hospital wanted to go in and cut about 75% of him away there.   He said NO and went with the stuff at M.D., and is now fully recovered.  Another friend of mine from FL had melanoma which had spread all over (a reoccurence from years earlier) and after being put on a first trial medicine there (he was one of the first human subjects to receive it) last year all of his tumors have either disappeared or shrunk by at least 1/2, and no new ones appeared.       It looks like he may very well make it for many more years!

He has an unusual form of lung cancer. He went through chemo, radiation and chemo again.  His test came back monday and the cancer had spread again.  Now he going to a research based program. He doesent know if he gets a placebo or the drug.  He is 42 and is having to arrange for life after him.  Its heart wrenching.  We plan on a few guy things and a good drunk  on the boat and maybe a tuna chase this Sept

So sorry to hear your loss. No words ever seem to be enough. Hang in there, we can't always understand why these things happen. My thoughts and prayers are with you and his family.

Sorry to hear about your friend.  That has to be really tough to lose a friend, and a friend *****cently just had WLS and seemed to be so excited about the new turn his life was taking.  My prayers are not only for his family but also for you to feel some comfort and strength during this tough time.
