Having trouble slowing down my eating!!!

I'm 8 weeks post op and still having trouble with eating too fast!!! I am using toddler utensils, putting my fork/spoon down between bites, chewing at least 20 times. But I find if we are having a conversation that is stressful, like about finances or the kids I tend to lose track and eat too fast. And then I'm dumping and have the foamies.

I work nights now so I just ate dinner at 10 pm and now I'm in agony. I ate 4 ounces of cottage cheese and a hard boiled egg.

Any words of wisdom???

Mike,
Most of us ate too fast and that contributed to our weight gain. All I can say is that if you make it an effort to slow down your eating, over time you will change your habits. You have become conditioned by years of fast eating, so it is natural that when you are stressed, or are not thinking about it, that you will speed up. It will take time to condition yourself to slower eating. This is a long journey and if you work the tools given you, by it's end, you will  be reconditioned.

I had the same problem.  Stress, some poor food choices, fluids to close to food intake and woofing it down.  After a few  "long" and "painful" periods, I got smart.  Dont eat with wife, watch sports.
Good luck

I have the same problem and can't seem to slow down so I make sure I only take as much as I can eat without dumping.  If it isn't in front of me I don't inhale it.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I'll keep at it.

I was also wondering if changing shifts could have a little to do with it since I only dump after I eat dinner at 10 PM, before the change I was eating dinner at 5:30 - 6 PM.

I love this forum because I can always get advice, encouragement and a chastising when needed.

Thanks,

The amount one eats may not cause dumping.  Only about 30% of WLS'ers dump.  From what I hear of dumping, its an unbelievable experience like no other.   It sounds like over eating pain
Good luck

I know exactly what you mean...I'm 3 years out and still having trouble with that too.  It takes practice and constant reminders on my own.

This journey is not that easy...Take it slow and constantly remind yourself of what you have to do on your own to get better at it....Best wishes.
