Second EGD with Dilation

Went in for my second EGD today.  Original was four weeks ago.  The original went from 8 to 13mm, this second time it was stretched to 13.5mm.  Hope this resolves the issue this time.  It would be nice to start progressing on normal food and depend less on protein shake and bars.

I did get into my first pair of 36 pants since I was a sophomore in high school.

I'm guessing but I would say 70-80% of strictures get resolved by the second "scope".  Do not freak out if you have to go back a third or forth time.  It can happen.  Not very common.  By about the third scope 90-95% get resolved completely.  Just don't lose heart if the stricture comes back.  Brian

how do they do these?

EGD or Uper GI or Scopes are easy.  They spray your throat to numb it.  They then knock you out with versed or another drug of the doctors choosing.  Insert a tube (scope) down you throat through you esophagus and into your pouch.  Camera in scope lets them see if there are any ulcers or other problems.  In my case the stoma (openng from pouch to intestines) has partially closed.  In that case the insert an instrument through the scope with a balloon on the end of the scope and pu**** through the stoma and inflate the ballon stretching the stoma.  In both of mine I had them early in the morning.  They say not to drive or make serious decisions for 24 hours due to drugs.  For both of mine I had evening meetings that I could not miss and had no problem attending either.  I did sleep most of the day yesterday which I consider a bonus.

just wondered as i have been reading about those and hoping that after i get to the post op i wont have those. but now i know what to expect. glad things working better for you
