Just got off the phone with a former GM guy. Loyal to the bone and ready to fight
He said GM is gonna kick ass and offer no quarter. I said how? He said they got tons of $$$$, new board, world class cars coming and had WLS with half their weight gone. Ford is toast All the japs are history too.
Hell, I said I better get in on this. You makeum good case.
Hold on ther lbsadropping. grab the jewels and think. He's former GM??? and US Post Office VS FEDEX, UPS
Labor+government=US Post Office WTF
Labor+government= Amtrak WTF
damn, almost lost another "fat"shirt and $$$$$$. Gotta pay attention to all these slim down stories

You knew you'd hear from me, but my dander isn't up. I just think it's strange that I just contacted one of our men who works for Ford. He's been espousing the value of buying American for a long time. He's been pointing out that Ford only wanted a loan and not a hand-out. I think Ford is in a good position now.
I assume that your post is a stab at wry humor. It often goes over my head and I take what's being said too literarily. So, I smile at your comments even as I'm perplexed at the govt's solutions. I don't understand business. I just think our government will get through this crisis like we've handled many problems in the past. So, I also have hope. There's something positive about the will and hopes of the American people. I think most other people feel the same way or there's be demonstrations galore in the streets. So, let's hope and pray that America gets through the present crisis. Bob

While I hope and pray for the best for the people who work for both GM and Chrysler. I am grateful that I work for Ford. If I worked for GM I would be actively seeking another job right now. I just can't see politicians keeping their agendas out of the business. Politically correct cars are not market demand cars! The market will buy what it demands. We at Ford have never forgotten Henry Ford II's politically correct car the Edsel. I think if you really want to slim your weight and include any excess weight in your wallet, you might consider buying GM stock right now. But hey, I could be wrong, I did once buy Euro Disney Stock.

Nick,
I cant pull myself to log on to my Scott account. There is no rhime nor reason anymore. Logic, fundamentals and even technicals are all over the place. As I was telling my sis today. I have never seen anything like this in 63 yrs.
Let me know when the new Political correct Obama green machine rolls off. Every govt fleet car will come with a durable 20 mile reversable extension cord, and a unlimited warranty til death do you apart.
AND a pension plan, auto insur coverage, and a acid rain protector.
LOL. I ride duh bike

Bob,
I think you are right on. I Think Ford is in the catbirds seat.. I've been in business all my adult life. I am a SCORE advisor and have taught business at the senior/ and grad level. Governments cannot run businesses. He who competes with a government will win everytime until he gets nationalized.
I just wanted to state that my friend wanted me to get in on the new GM early on.
I'am sitting on losses from 08-09 that has me so gun shy that my bullion is under my mattress messing with my incisions. I tell my wife buy stock in companies whose products are getting used at our house.
Good luck

I used to subscribe to Car and Driver and one of their editors pointed out that all-electric cars will only be as green as the source of their electricity. That is, if the electricity comes from a coal generated plant, the real carbon footprint will be a lot larger than what we are told by the govt.
As far as investments go, I've just about given up on trying to explain to my wife that she's better off paying off her credit cards than keeping an equal amount of money in a regular savings account. I feel we should just go to the bank and hand them our money with that attitude. But, early in our marriage before I was on meds, I'd spend a little when I was manic and she's always handled our funds. I know it's my dumb mistake, but it's not worth arguing over. She'll soon ( I hope) be working and I'll still be getting my disability pension due to manic-depression. We lost a little on her IRA but that's only because she doesn't have much in it. Overall we're ok since we own our house but I hate NJ property taxes which are the worse in the country.
By the way, nick is not the guy I contacted who works for Ford. Bob

You bring up the perfect example of what I meant about political correctness. There is no carbon foot print reduction in burning hydrocarbon fuels to make electricity and then use electric cars. Since the majority of electricity in this country comes from hydrocarbon fuel plants, and the transmission and energy conversion losses make running a car on electricity less efficient than using an engine in the vehicle, its a net loss. Look at politically correct "bio fuel". When the farmer plants and harvests the field he uses hydrocarbon fuel. When we burn the "bio fuel" its still a hydrocarbon and puts the same CO and C02 into the air. How is that better? Of course its not! But it is politically correct!
I remember 20 years ago being invited to a Society of Automotive Engineering lecture by a PhD of electrical engineering who was head of electric car research for GM at the time. His extensive mathematics based presentation explained quite well why electric cars were not practical and would not offer the savings the environment people wanted. The math was impressive, and in the real world the numbers tell the whole story. Now you go against the numbers and you will lose every time, but this isn't what the politically correct world wanted to hear. So it was no surprise to most of us when GM let him go!
The numbers don't lie, but in today's climate political correctness is what matters! That I fear will be the doom of Government Motors.
At The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn Michigan, amongst the old cars and many old concept cars there is an model of a concept nuclear powered car from the 1950s. That would be carbon foot print free, but, I would hate to see the result of a car crash in one!

What happened to the fuel cell cars. The infrastructure just needs to be tweeked. Look at all the gas stations./ How much does the fuel cell equipment cost?
Electric is a band aid approach. PC stuff. Total dependency on electric grid is REALLY SCARY.
Just a few placed dissruptions and the east coast is black for 8-13 months. Dont hear about that do we?? How much ammo do u have?
And A Gore will sell carbon credits to all the coal fired plants and get richer and MO. He already is.
Seems like we are just creating more bubbles and short term solutions. Just dont see any real science or invention anymore unless its a smaller ipod, bigger flat screen or happier cough medicine. Electric cars, hybrids yea right.
I once read in a Popular Science mag a long time ago about hands free driving propelled by magnets. Hummmm I rode on a train in China like that
Guess my age has me more near sighted and cynical, but I dont see the creative spirit, the energy driving invention, the passion to build a better mouse trap. Its all short term **** Meet your numbers, get your health care and go to the beach.
Should be on the R&R board today
Good luck Mr Ford
Feel free to correct my spelling. Grammar queen is off camping this weekend

While there is plenty of water (H2O) on this planet there is no source of free hydrogen (H2). Water is what you get when you burn hydrogen and while it is possible to use hydrolysis to separate water to H2 and O2 it require more energy than you get when your burn it again. You are back to burning more hydrocarbons to make electricity to make hydrogen.
Almost no hydrogen is actually produced this way as in reality it is difficult and very dangerous to do. Most hydrogen bottled today is made by separating out the hydrogen from natural gas and releasing CO and CO2 into the atmosphere. Fuel cell hydrogen cars are another politically but not scientifically correct agendas of our government, Those that favor it have no clue as to the physics involved.
Now my hunting ranch in Wyoming is truly green. I have batteries that are recharged by solar panels and a wind turbine. A bunch of high tech electronics produce 110v and 220v AC from the 24V DC power. This was a very expensive technology and the only reason I put it in is because it is so remote grid power is not possible. But if we tried to use as much power as most use at home there I would have to run the back up generator most of the day.
