Rethinking breakfast...

For those of you new to WLS I thought we could get a thread going what what post op guys are eating for breakfast.  Breakfast is the one area we need to rethink the most.  You need to get your mindset thinking of protein and basics rather than the traditional breakfast...  Yeh, call me a nut, but here are some of the things I will have for breakfast; Day old Wendy's Chili (with cheese), different nuts (plain) almonds, walnuts, sunflower & pumpkin seeds, roasted soy nuts, dry roasted peanuts or peanut butter, beef jerkey, crock pot stew...beef and vegetables, fish dinner, yogurt, milk (or protein shake), tuna salad, cooked spinach (or spinach leafs...or put spinach leafs in your omelet), lunchen meat wrapped in string cheese and a dark green lettece leaf.  Yeh, boring stuff...but everything is mostly low carb, low fat and high protein.  So what do you have for breakfast??  Brian

I ( if I eat breakfast at all ) will make myself a two egg omelet and fill it with what ever kind of protein is in the freg.  left over steak and cheese makes a good one. As far as what you are calling  "traditional" I never really have liked that kind of breakfast , pancakes, waffles , frenchtoast, and the likes. I do like fryed taters though , but save them for the sunday family breakfast . And even then I don't eat very much of them. For some reason I have a really hard time with fryed taters. I can eat them cooked every other way , just not fryed. I guess I should be happy about that though . LOL

Good health and best wishes

1.5 poached eggs daily with a piece of string cheese.  If there is other protein in the fridge, steak or ham especially, I'll go that route and just one egg.

ETA:  Some weekends we, GF and I, will go out for breakfast.  On those occasions may up it to an omelet or steak and eggs!

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Only being less than two months out I've been just eating one of my protein bars for breakfast.  My surgeon said that I can eat protein bars instead of or in addition to the protein shakes so I've been eating bars by Pure Protein.  They tend to sit pretty well in my pouch.  They are 23 to 32 grams of protein with 4 to 5 grams of sugar and usually under 300 cals.

At first my wife and I loved to eat eggs when the Nut. said that we could but lately neither one of us wants anything to do with eggs.  The same goes for cheese.  Both of those sit like rocks in our pouches.

I tend to be a morning person but it seems that my pouch is not.  I usually take my meds. and vitamins first thing in the morning and I think that combined with brushing my teeth and gargling that combo. makes my pouch angry.

I do like the idea of non typical breakfast foods for breakfast.  I have to admit that I'd love to sit down to a stack of pancakes with butter and syrup....yum!

Great thread,
I mentioned something awhile back about the  big man breakfast. Ya know the Dennys grand slam, B Evans 3 for and the Sunday breakfast we all made for the family.   GONE, GONE.
Wife eats fruit, coffee. There is no bread in the house except a muffin or some pita bread.  I eat what ever is left from last nights dinner or lunch.  Eggs lost their appeal except in tuna salad.
I did'nt believe I could make these kind of changes so quick - Pouch rules.
Today its a protein shake, coffee and I'am good til 10am Then albacore salad egg drop  soup
I'd like to hear what changes you guys have made to the most important meal of the day LOL\   Oh yea, beef jerky, almonds

Breakfast is not usually a time when I can cook, so I found a recipe to make "egg muffins" - in a cupcake tin lined with paper, I'll put 1/8 c. meat (ground turkey or ham so far), add 1/4 c. egg whites (All-whites by Papetti) which generally fills up the paper, and sprinkle a little cheese on top.  I baked them for 25 minutes at 350.  I can pull one out of the fridge and microwave it in 30 seconds, and I can freeze the balance and thaw as needed.

I also have some Kashi brand oatmeal that has 8g or 9g protein per packet and add some Unjury to it to boost the protein count.   It's quick and microwaveable.

If I have time to cook, I'll do an omelet out of the materials above - but add more filler.  I was always an omelet eater, so for me this is a natural extension of an old habit, albeit with smaller portions.

I also will have a protein bar if I'm on the run.  I'm using South Beach cereal bars - 10g protein and 140 calories.  I have some Sams Club protein bars that have 30g per bar, but I haven't tried one post-op as yet.  I may do a half bar.

I bought a chef salad at a restaurant the other day - they are known for being generous with the meats on top - and it included a hard boiled egg.  I didn't seem to have trouble with the yolk, so I may try some hard boiled eggs occasionally.  BTW - the salad made three meals for me.

For the record, I'm five weeks post-op.
Onward and DOWNward,

Skipping breakfast is not an option if you want to stay successfull.  We need to get our metabolism going as early as possible.  I eat 3/4 cup of Kashi Go-Lean with Lactaid whole milk every day for breakfast.  That starts me off with 22 grams of protien.  If I am in fishing/hunting camp I eat it a couple of hours before the guys eat and eat again with them to get the extra protien.

sadly, my breakfast is typically coffee. I rush out of the house. I keep oatmeal or kashi hot cereal packets at work, but by the time i get there and settle down it's almost time for lunch.

I'm so horrible at eating regularly and probably has everything to do with my present stall. That and not doing much more than walking a few days a week.

Dog, just open the fridge...grab and go.  Go with the left over protein from the night before.  But instead of the left over pizzzza or chinese food (what we did pre op), go with the boring protein stuff.  Early on I remember eating Wendy's Chili for my hour early commute.  Just saying think ahead.
