Stalls/Plateaus
Hey guys, I've been stalled for about a week and a half now with my weight loss. My surgery was 04/22/09 and I've lost 54lbs since my surgery date. I realize that's a lot of weight to lose in that short amount of time and that everybody is different but I'm wondering how long your stalls have lasted. I've read that most people stall at the three to four week mark and I'm not freaked out by stalling I just want to know about how long it will last. I've upped my exercise amount and intensity to try to break the stall.
Thanks,
Duane

Thanks,

Duane, My doc calls them adjustment periods. Stay away from the scales for awhile. They will drive your crazy. Also, I was just put back to a 3 day a week gym routine. I was busting my nut, burning hugh cals at the gym 4-5 days week and feeling bad. Body was in starvation mode. Dropping in jean sizes, but Doc said I would start regaining at the 12-15 month period if I did'nt follow the rules of moderation
You will have these periods. Losing 54lbs in a month is unbelievable. Think 12-15 lbs per month
Good luck

My last one was about 2 weeks and then suddenly almost over night I lost 10 pounds. (I know I couldnt believe it either) I went over to the Weigh****chers Center just to make sure I wasnt seeing things. But, once your body adjusts then you'll start loosing again. DONT FREAK OUT!! Its a normal part of Weight Loss. If you're eating properly and working out you'll start to loose again.

agreed with the guys above, don't get freaked, and my nut and surgeon also call them adjustment periods. your body is being changed on many levels, and stalls are just par for the course. personally, i've had 2 in the past 7 months, both lasted about 2 weeks, when they ended my losing rate was very similar to prior to the stall. in both cases i upped my calories and didn't change my exercise schedule (which is 5 days per week for a little over 2 hours a day), that seemed to break the stall (i think my body was in starvation mode).
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

Congrats on the 54 pounds. You're doing great.
I never had any stalls (none that I knew about, at least.) The reason- I only weighed myself once a month.
I know that most people won't just weigh themselves once a month, so when in a stall, just keep doing what you have always been doing. After your body is finished adjusting itself to the previous weight loss, it'll start dropping again. Be patient and keep your eye on the prize.
Nowadays, I rarely weigh myself. I thought that I stopped losing weight a year ago at 145, but I very recently saw that I'm down to 140. Sometimes I wonder when it will stop...
Cheers,
Chris

My date was 1-14-09, I have been pretty steady every wee****il the last two. I am attributing mine to stress. I am currently in a custody fight that will hopefully be concluded next month. Until then I am not worrying about my weight loss. I know I haven't been as faithful to my diet and exercise as I should be, but I am still WAY better than before. Now a stress binge for me is a handfull of pretzels instead of 1/2 gallon of ice cream and a box of fruity pebbles cereal.
Barring any outside influences just keep doing what you know you should be and your body will do what it is supposed to.
Keep it bro, you are doing great!

Thanks to all of those who have provided feedback. The stall has actually kind of been a good thing as I've regained a little more energy and I don't freeze all of the time like I was doing when I was dropping weight so quickly. Thanks to those who have gone before me and good luck and best wishes to those who follow.
