Ran into a WLS guy at the gym the other day.  He was 14 mos out of RYN and shared some interesting facts with me.  He said the surgern did'nt prepare him for the 20+lbs he would gain after his 12th month or the cravings he would be fighting or the diet restrictions he needed to have in place.  I asked about his support team, PCP, NUTS, Wife, support group, forums guys.  He said he was a loner and thought he could do this himself..  I asked why he was working out and he said the it was a carryover routine from pro football days..  He did'nt look real fat, just chubby.  I asked how much had he gained and he said 80lbs.
He had alot of buck passing and excuses and felt the WLS was a big failure and was trying to get the word out..  I asked him what he did for a living and he said he was a car salesman.
I begain to see the picture much clearer.  Hope to see him again and get him to our support mtg.
WLS is a tool that takes 48 hrs to install.  endofstory

I applaud you for your insights and for approaching him.  Considering his weight regain, I'd advise him to see either his primary or his surgeon and to have blood work done.  Depending how that goes and possibly getting results from an EKG, he may want to get scoped to make sure that his internal "plumbing" has not had any problems.  I say this from experience because I had a staple line disruption.

I do find it odd that someone who played pro football would be trying to work his weight loss as a loner.  I'd think that he could easily see the team aspect of support.  I do hope that he will come here even if he just lurks for a while.  He should know that we gain strength in recovery from helping each other.  Bob

Curious as to how it came up that you are WLSers, since that is not something that guys usually go about broadcasting ..       (please don't say he was "the most wrinkled guy in the lockerroom"   )

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

HW/461 LW/251 GW/189 CW/274 (yep, a DS semi-failure - it happens :-( )

We were talking about tattoos and it went to the scars we had and there to WLS.
I've reach a point in my life where a good story erases embarrssing subjects everytime.  I have no   embarrssing moments anymore, just ones to laugh at. LOL
