I had my VSG surgery 17 days ago and by others standards I think I'm losing a little slow. Now I realize we're all different but I'm eating right, not so much excersing as I should (but I truely have ALOT going on). I've lost only 20 lbs. Anyone have any suggestions or advise?

I was RNY - don't know how it compares to VSG.  At 17 days out I had lost 16 pounds and the surgeon said that I was on target for 25 the first month.  I started at 286 day of surgery.  My guess is the guys who started in the 400+ range lose it a lot faster.

Why the heck are you on a scale 17 days out, don't you read any of the posts here?????   The scale is your enemy stay off of it except for at the Dr's office until you are close to maintenance!!!!!

Over 1,.17#'s a day, thats 429#'s in a year.  Does that sound like you are losing slow?  Again, follow your diet and stay off of the scale it will drive you crazy.  Much of the time you will be losing inches and not pounds.

Just a couple of ideas...Hard physical work.  Don't lift or strain anything.  I'm talking about cleaning the house or car.  Also walk more if you can.  Maybe use 2 or 1  pound weights while you walk.  One caution...watch for the signs of dehydration.  Esp with the summer coming up...just know the signs.  Brian  PS  No, I'm not going to tell you the signs...If you look them up yourself you'll remember them, rather than gloss over it when it happens...

Make the effort to do much more walking.  It has so many benefits-  more than just burning calories.  Good luck!!!

I would chuck the scale also.....It will drive you crazy. I only weighed every two weeks or so and it was not in my house. 20lbs is great just follow your dr's advice and you will be fine.

This is a new one for me.. I dont know.... But, I would assume like camparing the Band to the RNY there is some difference. I could only assume that the VSG is the same way.

I personally do not subscribe to the idea of not looking at the scale. The reason many say to avoid it is because they found it discouraging.. Even after surgery your weight will fluctuate and you WILL hit stalls that seam to go on forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess I'm wired differently or something,,, (I did pass my psych eval) I personally have become rather addicted to the scale. I really like knowing from day to day what my weight is. I find that knowing when I gain LOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE!!!!! or hit a wall motivates me to keep moving forward.

I havent run into anyone who feels the same way.
