Meal Sizes for protein intake
I was looking at my soft food phase of my diet. The Nut says to eat 3 times a day no snacking in between.. Ummm How the hell am I going to get in 80gm of protein on 3 meals?
Everyone I've talked to has 6 small meals a day to get it in. She also told me not to rely on bullets or the powders But my doc says to have the bullets and the shakes...
I dont trust this NUT... shes dumber than a box of rocks

you will probably have to have substitute at least one meal for a protein shake if you want to hit 80 gms...

You'll still need some high protein snacks. I'm with the doc on this one (as would be the NUT I have). I'm not doing the full liquid shakes with their high calorie count, but I have had 8 oz fat free milk (8 gm protein) with one scoop of chocolate protein powder - I use Designer Whey from GNC/Rite-Aid (18 gm protein), and this 26 grams of protein counts as part of my 64 oz fluid intake and not a meal.
It seems like you are going to have to do some powder (I also use unflavored Unjury) in order to reach 80. I'm told to get to 60, and I have to use 1 1/2 to 2 scoops of powder to do it on the puree phase, which isn't that much different from the soft phase except for the texture of the food.
I've tracked my food over the last couple of days on FitDay, and it looks like I'm taking in about 650-700 calories a day on the purees and expending 3400 based on my activity level. 2700 less calories a day means pretty close to a pound a day of weight loss - maybe 5-6 pounds per week.

I had to do 1 week of soft foods pre-op and my best friend gave me the magic bullet set and that was the only way I was able to get through it had a BBQ and made some Top Sirloin steaks and threw it in the bullet with a little bit of beef broth and made me a pâté with some mashed potatoes. That was very filling and satisfying I lost 15 lbs pre op that way. 1 cup of chopped or diced chicken has 43.43 grams of protein and only 231 calories. In the mornings I would have a banana milk shake but instead of using 100% milk I used the Atkins meal replacement shakes and then just a splash of milk so it would not be so thick and some honey just to sweeten things up. The nut where I had surgery also wanted the same thing. I was surprised since you always here 6 small meals/day. She explained that she wanted the rest of the time spent trying to get in your needed liquids (water, etc). She also said she wanted the protein to come from solids, as it was more filling, but there is no way to get in 80 gm on the soft food phase. I just did what I could, and did have a small protein shake anyway per day. It was also like impossible to get in the required amount of fluids at first, but again, I did what I could. Michael
