Unexpected FART

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea 7 years ago and have used a bipap machine ever since.  I did not expect this to change, even with weight loss, for several reasons.  One, my apnea was some of the worst that the technician had ever seen (I had 200 "events" an hour).  Two, my grandfather had severe apnea and was not overweight at all, and three, my sleep doctor didn't give me much hope of weight loss resolving it completely.  At any rate, I worked a 14 hour day a week ago yesterday.  I came home and just fell into bed, exhausted.  Next thing I knew, it was morning and I had not put my mask on.  I haven't used it since.  I'm sleeping very well and my wife tells me I'm not snoring or restless.  I can't really believe it, but I'll take it nonetheless.

I stopped using my CPAP machine a couple months after my RNY for the same reason you gave.  I found out about 8 years later that I have atrial fibrilation and was asked about my CPAP.  When I told my doc that I stopped using it because I no longer snored and my wife din't hear any stoppages of my breath at night, he order a new sleep study.  I had improved a lot but still needed the CPAP machine.  Now I must use the machine, take coumadin, and get my blood tested regularly so I don't end up having a blood clot to my brain.

I'm glad you are feeling better, but PLEASE have another sleep study done before you stop using the CPAP.

I agree with Bob. At least see the doc to get clearance before you go off completely.
