Two weeks post-op
Things sre going pretty good so far. I have transitioned to a pureed food diet with no real problems. Went fishing Saturday for the first time post-op. Spent eight hours there and difinetly overdid it. I was completely exhausted when we got home. I spent Sunday after Church just resting. My G-Tube site became very sore from all the getting up and down fishing and crabbing. It's better now. I feel so good that it is hard not to do all the things I want to. But I am not supposed to lift anything over 5 lbs until the G-Tube is out and healed. That's driving me nuts. I went for a 45 minute walk this evening and feel great.
I did try egg salad yesterday and tolerated it well. I am tired of all the bland food. When can I start adding some spice to my food? Is it too early to eat chili?

Hmm ... egg salad. Hadn't thought of that when I made up my pureed foods list. Maybe I'll work that in! I think I've seen in some places where chili, pureed, has been used, but I generally see it on the soft foods list. Try this one - pureed pinto beans with a little melted LF or FF cheese on top. Just hold the tortilla chips!
Remind us, Mike, why you have the G-Tube.

My doctor insists on keeping the G-Tube in for 5-6 weeks. It serves two purposes:
1. If for some reason the intestines get blocked or twisted, we will know it before our staples rupture in our "old stomach". I guess he had this happen with one patient and now does this for everyone to be safe.
2. We can add liquid supplements directly into our "old stomach" if we get too nauseated to drink fluids.
It did come in handy the first two days after surgery. The loratab elixir pain medication tastes terrible and I was able to take it through the tube.
