Hi,
   I can tell you that a lap band WILL NOT set off a metal detector (mag)  in an airport. If it does, the calibration is off on the mag.  If you do set it off, tell them you have a surgical implant, you don't have to tell them what it is if you don't want to.  Just let them know the general area of the implant (that is what it is considered) and they will clear the alarm and let you be on your way.

The card provided by a doctor will not stop the TSA  from clearing the alarm.
