Vent time, off topic

I have my car trailer stored at a friends and the trade off for rent is he can use it whenever he wants. He has had it for 3 years.  So he says he is going to NC for a show this weekend.  He was worried about having a flat on the road and asked me when was the last time you replaced the tires. I told him I did it in 2004 when i came to FL but have had a few flats here and there.   I had a spare rim that he put a tire on and he had his own spare.

My last long trip was to dallas and back and I got 2 flats.

I told him that spending money in a trailer I don't use is not a priority right now. I told him if he is that worried that he better rent a u-haul or go buy a new trailer.   He doesn't want to do that. He said Uhaul trailers suck and a new one like I have is 2200.

So I just called to check on him and he is pissed cause he got two flats going goin up to NC.. He says wait till you get the bill.

Why should I pay maintance on something for someone else to funk up?  I could see if I said well all the tires are good and he got flats but I didn't. I gave the option for him to use something else or to buy a trailer.

Real problems can be caused when friends borrow things from each other. No one thinks of these problems when they ask to borrow something.  However, when someone borrows something from somone else (no matter how small or big) they have a responsilbility to return that item either in the same condition it was in  or better than when it was  first borrowed.
It can really suck if it's a small item because if it breaks and you have to replace it you could have just bought a new one for yourself and now you're paying to fix one to give back to your friend and you still are left without one. But hey, **** happens and if you took the easy way out and borrowed, rather than buy a new one, this is the chance you take.
With something larger like a trailor if it breaks while he was using it the correct thing to do is fix it for because when he borrowed  it, it wasn't broken.  What would he do if he totalled the trailer while he was using it, tell you oh well go out and buy a new one. That unfortunately would be his responsibility.
Many a friendship has been broken by borowing things and not taking responsibility for that item.
he should man up and fix whatever has to be fixed since it broke while he was using it.

Dan you are 100% correct. I am not the type that likes to loan things for this reason.   I figured since he made good money if something happened he would have the cash to fix it. I told him this before as well..

I am going to get it when he comes back and pay storage or just sell it. Put  the cash towards my clothing fund..

He offered to buy it for 1000.00 lol and new is 2200 umm there is a void in the middle some place..

I don't like borrowing things for this exact reason   But when I have  I have always returned it in the same or better condition.

Dan is exactly right. This guy should "Man Up" and return it in the same condition he borrowed it.
That is the reason I will not borrow a friend or relatives things. It usually ends up messing up the friendship.

I borrow it, I break it, I fix it.  He should have replaced the tires before he left.

That settled, I have been taken advantage of by friends that park things at my farm for long periods of time - a trailer for 6 years.  It is out of sight- out of mind for you, but your friend probably looks at it a couple times a week wondering if it will ever leave his property.  Maybe it is an eyesore, or in the way once in a while. either way i'm sure he would rather it wasn't there.  If you don't have a place to store your chit, you shouldn't have it.  3 years in his yard and you havent used it, give it to him for the $1,000 with a stipulation that you can use it when you need it.

6 years is considered abandoned to me.

He offered to keep it so he could use it and not have to buy one....  He feels since it's mine he does not have to maintain it.  I am not the one using it every weekend. I offered 25 a month  for storage he said no.

I gave him a 500.00 weight distributing hitch so he could safely tow it. 200.00 in Straps so he didn't have to buy them. Locks so it would not be easy to steal.

Paying storage is not an issue for me..
