Did anyone have problems with water?
Hey guys, I had my RNY on April 22nd. I've been doing pretty good. I'm down 32lbs since surgery. I can pretty much get in most of my protein, food, vitamins on a daily basis but every sip of water that I take sits like a big rock in my stomach. Now, I like water. I've got no problem drinking water. Before surgery I tried to drink at least 64ozs of water per day. Now it just feels like it sits there and makes me miserable. I've been doing the Crystal Light thing and that helps a little but not as much as I would like. I've followed my diet to the letter. I do notice that if I eat 2ozs of cheese it sits heavy on my stomach so no more of that. Am I expecting too much too soon? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Duane

Maybe try smaller sips. Liquids should pass through pretty quickly. If your stomach is empty, you might even be able to feel cold water goinig from your mouth and out your stomach (weird feeling - but kinda cool).
As far as cheese - it might be too early for that, or again try smaller pieces and chew them very well.
It will get better!

hey duane,
you are going to find that some foods can be a friend or an enemy with regard to your new stomach. I have to have cold water when i drink it but try different temps on the water warmer water or room temp water may sit better. it is all trial and error. don't be afraid to try some crystal light or tea, gives you variety and may help it sit better. I drank mint tea for the first month both iced and hot and it really helped.

i definitely noticed that i had to take in really small sips at first, now it is much easier (however i'm still not gulping or chugging etc). I've found if i'm really thirsty after a workout, i can drink much faster without pain or having it back up into my mouth, weird.
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

A few things come to mind. Koolaid (unsweeten), then add Splenda instead of sugar or Equal. Always keep a cups (water) near by. It is sort of like relearning a new habit. I keep water in the TV room, bye the computer, and in all the cars. Another thing, if you end up peeing in the middle of the night, you might want to put 2-3 oz of milk or protein shake mix on the nightstand. The liquid in the milk counts as liquid...plus the protein can help too. Brian
Thanks for the advice guys. You know, the funny thing is that I can tolerate the Cran-Raspberry Lite or any of the Cran Lite drinks with no problem. They seem to work best for me. Also, I love the sugar free popsicles. As for the cheese, I really chew the already small pieces very well. I think that I'm just going to shy away from the cheese altogether right now. Funny though, my wife can handle the cheese with no problem and she's only fifteen days ahead of me with her surgery.
