Yes, you can have coffee post-op!!  Decaf, sugar free and just a few sips to start.  Reason for the decaf is that caffeine can irritate your pouch possibly causing an ulcer.  Not good.  With time you can up your consumption.  Check with your Nut. on it.  Some get pretty anal on the subject.

Same thing with tea.  Needs to be decaf too.  I'll assert my 5th amendment privilege on whether or not mine is always decaf.

I use to drink a ton of coffee pre-WLS like a 1-2 pots a day.  I work for the railroad and coffee is like job requirement because of our crazy work schedule.  Since the surgery I have not really needed it.  I have a ton of energy.  However I did have some the other day ( one cup) and was fine.

I am 4 days out of surgery and have not tried coffee. I am sticking pretty strictly to protien shakes, crystal light tea and water. For lunch today I had cream of chicken soup (strained of course). I was amazed that after only about 1/2 cup, if that, I was full.

I am retired Navy and survived on strong thick coffee for 21 years, I though this would be a problem, but so far I have not had any urge for it.

Not being a coffee drinker, I got my juices going with Diet Pepsi. Lots of Diet Pepsi. Prior to surgery, my doc told me to get off sodas altogether since they'd be out for a long time anyway and that I really didn't want to deal with all the discomfort of surgery with a caffeine withdrawal headache. Excellent advice.
I'm 7 months out and drink very little soda but the protein drink I use is Click and it has about 2 espressos worth of caffeine per serving. I have had no issues with it but I've been really lucky with being able to tolerate most anything (but protein supplements).
My advice, get clean now and that will be one less thing to deal with later. A few months down the road, that first cup will either taste better than you remember or you will have lost your taste for it.3
Good luck,
Jim
