My daughter's surgery
Hi guys, long time no chat! Well, its been over a year and I'm doing GREAT!!!!! I'm down over 100 lbs. and love running into people and seeing the look on their faces.
Well, if you're a parent you know you kids are going to mimic you. Mine are no different. My daughter Jennifer is going to be 28 on the 29th of August and like dad she almost hit 300 lbs. Today she had her RNY (same op and doc as dad) and she seems to be doing great. Left her this afternoon to get some rest (surgery started at 10:30 am) and I went back up at 7 pm. She was sitting up in a chair and had already made 2 trips around the nurses station! She will probably be home Friday. Keep her in your prayers please. Oh yea, BTW, my wife Debi has had her initial visit with Dr Caruana and he said its a go for her too! Waiting on the insurance approval, hope to see that next week and planning on her surgical date early September. Will keep you posted.

Congratulations Buffalo on your success to date. Keep up the great work. Obviously, you've been a great role model for your family and you should be very proud of that.
I know you must have mixed feelings about your daughter and wife having WLS. My brother just had WLS and I feel that I had a great deal to do with his decision. So, the good news is he's successfully made it through surgery and he's well on his way to a new, much better life. On the other hand, I can tell you I was a wreck the day of surgery cause if it hadn't gone well, I would have felt totally responsible.
Bottom line, WLS is an individual decision and I made sure he understood the benefits AND risks. WLS is a modern day medical miracle but it's not for everyone so I make sure I don't push someone into it just because it has saved my life.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

You know we'll be praying for your daughter's success. Wow! A whole family getting WLS. You should be able to help each other comply with your post-op eating plans. And, you can encourage each other about exercise.
You may have to look into group or individual counseling only because it's apparent that your family took too much pleasure in eating. Once each of you have WLS, you will have to find new ways to cope with the dynamics of everyday life. While you want to encourage each other, you also don't want to feel like someone is constantly watching your behaviors.
You may also eventually look into activities as a family such as walking, hiking, bicycling, or just playing games together. Of course, you will have a challenge in the winter. Either get some home exercise equipment or walk in malls. You may want to join gyms, but that may be expensive if each of you join.
You are each starting a new journey where you will be interacting in new ways. Be open to change.
