fighting old demons

Hey guys, I need some good ole help or butt kicking.  I am about 7 months post op and I have learned that I can eat Taco Bell (crunchy tacos and nachos) without any problems.  I feel that I am sinking into habit of old behaviors that made me obese.  I have stalled with a weight loss of about 110 lbs. and have not lost for about three weeks.  Of couse, I am having a little stress within my life with some $ issues and a few other things.
How have you guys fought the demon for eating bad stuff?  Any advice or butt kicking is truly appreciated.

All I would advise with the new tool you have is this: Eat a chicken wing or two first. Follow that with Taco Bell.

Thanks Dave for the response, I think your being facetious but I am not sure.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Steve,

I posted that rather quickly. Apologies, my intent wasn't to be facetious. What I meant was you don't really need to be all that tough on yourself. Just start out with something like chicken, pork or other hard food, that will fill the pouch (might want to water load first). Then go off to taco bell. Chances are, you won't be able to hold that much. Hopefully then , after that your other activities will have you too busy to go to taco bell again 1.5 hours later.

Or, you could make your own taco stuff out of healthier contents. Don't know, if it's me and I have something that's almost as good and it's close by, I won't bother to go out and get it. Now...if I were in LA and had the places where the Mexican folks go (talk about good and high calorie!)... I'd be out of control. Then again, maybe I could precede that with the great Pasadena Chashu Chinese roast pork! Mmm..

So eat the "hard stuff" first. Maybe a couple of wings and some greens. And make some healthier less mushy, less greasy bean stuff and keep it on hand.

Hope This Helps,

Dave

Dealing with those same demons...Running with the devil...Playing with fire...Whatever you want to call it.  Adding more water may help with the not full issue (after RNY for me it was the "not full" issue more than hunger pains).  Adding more vegetables to your diet may help.  If you eat things that are healthy first before the Taco Bell it will help.  You just put the leftovers in the fridge after eating the healthy stuff.  The chips can be a real downfall.  Try Wendy's Chili for fast food.  Thanks for sharing...Now bend over for that kick in the butt!!  Brian

Well Steve, here's my take on it. GET YOUR ASS BACK ON TRACK!!
You have lost 110 lbs. and you can lose more IF you do what it takes, which is following your program and using your WLS tool correctly.  You said "I have learned that I can eat Taco Bell without any problems."  So, once in a while, eat a taco or nachos, but don't  pig out on em just cause ya can! You KNOW that will cause you problems. Get your head out of you ass, quit looking for excuses to fail, and do what you know you have to do to continue to be successful at this! Man, after puttin it on the line, going through the risks involved with the surgery, and then losing 110 pounds, are you telling me you can't hack it?
I say BULLSH*T!!  Only you can get yourself back on track - so get off your ass and do it - NOW!!! No more excuses, or using stress over $$ or anything else as a reason to fail!!

You can do it - you just have to get re-dedicated and re-focused!  Now, get to it!!

First of all relax n take a big breath. Good. Now we're gonna start cuz you don't want that first bite. Drive by Taco Bell. You're making that choice so STOP. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you have to.

Now do you do protein shakes orsupplements. Get back on those. Get back to your protein first  water good eating. If you have $ issues why are you eating at Taco bell. get to the damn store and buy food. Better for you.

ALso when you think you might be hungry drink water. wait 30 min and if you are still hungry then eat.  could be head hunger

Get  to walking but not to Taco Bell. Start posting here. You need to vent here about why you want to eat instead of eating Taco Bell.

Now Bend over

I agree with a lot of what has been said, but most of all Dave made the comment about eating a chicken wing or two first.  I don't think he was trying to be funny to your dilema, but it was an honest attempt to get you to fill your belly first with protein in hopes of filling up and taking up space in your belly.  I am about 5 months post op now, I have lost 140 pounds so far, but I have also realized that any and all foods are tolerable - and I mean any and all foods.  I just can't eat the amounts of foods like I used to before surgery.  I am much more aware of what I eat and put in my mouth.  I know I can have anything I want, but I chose to eat protein first and then if I have room, I might stuff a little something extra in the belly.  I try to drink lots of fluids before eating and I find this helps tremendously.  The tool is what you make of it and how you work it.  You obviously have done well or you would not have lost 110 pounds - that is a **** load of weight to lose no matter who you are.  Don't beat yourself up over a taco - the beef is not bad for you.  It is okay every now and then - just not every day like we all used to do.  You have to tell yourself to get back up, take a deep breath, and get the ship back on the right course.  Have I splurged by eating or drinking something I shouldn't have - Hell Ya.  I just made sure to bust my ass the next day in the gym by running a little farther than normal or lifting weights a little longer than normal.  We are all human and by our very nature we will all stumble at some point - I don't care who the hell it is on this forum - we will all stumble at some point - it might not be now, not two months from now, or even one year from now, but I bet the farm that at some point everyone will cheat and deviate.  What makes me, you, and the rest of the testosterone floating around on OH different is how we handle the adversity after we stumble.  Don't wallow in regret, but move on.  Each day represent a new start.  Only you can make it happen and make it right again.

Well, Steve, you might go weigh.  I think you are probably a few lbs lighter from having YOUR ASS CHEWED OFF!  Sorry, though, I agree with Bama Bob and the others.  Get off your ass, quit feeling sorry for yourself and get out there and do what needs to be frickin done.  Like was said, if you didn't know what to do, you wouldn't have lost the 110 lbs.  Told the psycologist (sp?) at my surgeon's office that I was feeling really frustrated with EVERYTHING about a week into my pre-op diet.  I wanted to binge on alot of fast food when I was driving around.  Finally called my wife and went by the house and picked her up to run errands with me. I didn't tell her for a few weeks why I had her run errands with me that day.   I was frustrated because I didn't have the food to turn to in the time of need.  What the hell do I turn to now?  I don't want to turn to something else as destructive as the food, so I have to find something constructive to turn to.  Yes, screwed up since then, but at least the realization is there.  I have seen so many people here turn to exercise as something constructive instead of something destructive.  You can do it, Michael

I really appreciate the responses from everyone. It is time to get back on track.  I have let other things become excuses for me not eating right or exercising as much as I really should.  Thanks again guys for helping me get straight.
