Questions on plastic surgery
Sorry to come out of lurking to ask but I need a guys input on plastic surgery. I have seen Dr Jerrold Laskins from Indianapolis and have been approved for a panniculectomy (should make you aware that my spelling sucks so half these words are probably wrong). On consutation he said I would benefit the most from a belt lipectomy with liposuction as well as an extended brachialplasty. This supposeadly will take care of some rash problems as well as pinching when laying on my back. Also been having problems when running of seperation the skin from the muscle. Burns like hell when that happens.
I had RNY 18 months ago and have been stable plus or minus 3 pounds at 200 for the last eight months. I have lost 250 lbs plus or minus 5 lbs.
The charge for my out of pocket will be $9500 which is a major concern but more so I have the typical fear of regain. I feel like the poster child for WLS because other than three strictures I have had a breeze with this. I eat properly for the most part but its still in the back of my mind.
I have asked the docs several questions on all aspects... physical and psychological associated with all my health options. I would like anyone who has an opinion to tell me what they think so I can add it to my "knowledge arsenal"
Sorry this is so long and thanks in advance for any replies

Not sure what you're asking so I'll just make general comments.
cost reasonable - does it include hospital.
Is he going to pull the area around the penis back so it makes it longer etc. what about legs etc.
moobies?
you will be swoolen and somewhat sore
if you're 18 months out and stable why fear regain with surgery. you will look and feel better

Hey Cooper,
I had two rounds of PS a year or so ago whi*****luded a panniculectomy and abdominplasty. Total cost was around $13K of which all but $3K was covered by insurance. My weight was stable for a year prior to PS. I worked my abs like crazy for the year prior so I didn't have to have the muscle repair piece done.
Getting rid of the excess skin was great since I no longer have the rashes and boils I use to get all the time especially when biking in the summer. My doctor wouldn't do lipo for 2 reasons. First, I only had 4.5% body fat % an my abs at the time so no fat to lipo. Also, she said, lipo should be done separately from PS in order to reduce the trama around the abs.
Boner
The cost is to include anaestesia, hospital fees and surgeon.... supposedly no "unforeseen" bills. He said it will tighten the whole body including top and bottom. There was so much going thru my mind at the time but I think he said he estimates removing a 3-4 inch belt and then working on my arms. i dont have batwings but alot of loose skin on my back. thats why he recommended the brachialplasty.
The worry about putting weight back on probably stems from the roller coaster diets I did before. Common sense and the profound fear of weight gain keeps me focused so I'm not beating myself up for it. I have dumping very bad so I dont tempt fate at all with sugars and fats aint too much better so its lean meats and veggies for me. Fresh fruits are a staple as well.
I had cancer a few times and had 5 pretty major operations on my belly so he said since he was going to be tighteneing up the muscles he could contour the abdomin with liposucution as well. Sounds logical enough for me.
I guess I don't have any particular question. I was just throwing the stats out there pertaining to my situation to see if there was anyone who has had it done and see how happy they were with it. I'm very anal about analysing things and I believe the more info I have the better off I am.
At this point between my wife and my logical side I think I will do the full reccomended procedure. If I could only hush up the side that thinks it's a vanity issue I'll be good to go.
I have a stoma in the remnant stomach so they can scope it for my cancer after care and found out last night after talking with the surgeon that the RNY doc had the forethought to make it movable in case I wanted to have plastics done. Can't thank him enough for that. anyhow thanks for the replies, I see some of you have had it done and are happy. Guess the wife was right it boils down to me being a tightwad
