Wednesday fitness fun fact
Burning calories a little at a time
The mathematical equation to lose weight is simple: calories burned - calories eaten = weight loss. We all can't run marathons or compete in triathalons but we all can do "little things" to up the calories burned number in the equation.
When it comes to weight loss, "It’s the little things that count." Many experts now say it’s actually the little things you do daily that really makes the difference in losing, and keeping, off those extra pounds.
Here are five little things we can do to "kick our weight loss up a knotch."
1 Instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs, or take the escalator but climb the stairs as you ride. When I go to the bathroom at work, I take the stairs down to the first floor bathroom then trudge back up the stairs to my third floor office.
2. Wash your car by hand at home instead of taking it to the carwash - you'll burn extra calories and get a good upperbody workout at the same time.
3. Park further from the shops and walk. Sames big time on door dings and saves gas looking for the "closest spot."
4. Get rid of the riding lawnmower and use a push mower.
5. Stand rather than sit whether riding a bus or waiting in line, etc.
Any other suggestions from you guys?
Todays biking tip: Do a quick bicycle safety check before every ride. Check the handlebars, seat and wheels to make sure they aren't loose. Pull on the brakes to make sure they work. Finally, make sure the tires are properly inflated. As long as they feel firm, there's no need to check the tire pressure before every ride but you should check it at least weekly.
