Thought of the week + OT: Weekly funny

This week, rather than discuss some dry, obesity issue, I will do as some suggested, and list: My top 10 reasons for having WLS:

10) Saving money - Yes, at the peak of our obesity insanity, my family was spending upwards of $500 / month eating out. Today, we spend less than half that, and once my wife has her RNY, we might eat out once a month, and share a meal - Taking leftovers home!

9) Learning or restarting certain physical activities: Yup, this winter, after 40 years of putting it off or not being able to do it due to my weight - I will learn how to skate

8) Fitting in ... To public transportation seats! Up to know flying, taking the bus or any other form of transportation, has been an exercise in fear and suffering! By now I am certain I no longer need extenders and by next year, I should fit in anywhere!

7) Not feeling hungry all the time. Since my RNY, hunger is no longer part of my vocabulary, and although many veterans say it will be again, I cannot foresee it becoming as bad as it was

6) Saying good bye to Big and Tall stores. For the most part, this goal has been accomplished, but upon losing a few more pounds, I will be fully WalMartable

5) Not becoming a ball of huffing and puffing sweat at the drop of a dime. These days I still sweat - After doing some serious physical activity!

4) Being accepted by society. Normally I do not care much what others think, and I am more than capable to stand up for myself, but I am tired of staring at the faces of people who look upon the obese with contempt or throw in their 2 cents worth on how you have to lose weight, even when they have no idea what a huge undertaking that is for the morbidly obese!

3) Being a better father to my lovely daughter, by setting an example to her that being fat is not normal and that being fit and active is.

2) Having more kids - This could easily have been my top reason, but it is really a team effort with my wife. I look forward to a 'big announcement' next year

1) Living longer ... Than I would have without WLS. Up to now I had dodged many an obesity health issue, but with time, a short time indeed, it was a certainty that I would have succumbed to a obesity related 'bullet'.

Now for some fun stuff ... Darwin Candidates - For those of you who do not know, the Darwin Awards are given to those individuals who out of acts of sheer stupidity have removed themselves from the human gene pool. I have selected an American and a Canadian candidate:

The Maritimes: A man was so saddened by a recent romantic break-up, he decided to end his life. To make sure he got it right, he attached one end of a rope to his neck, and the other to a very heavy stone. He also brought a loaded pistol to shoot himself in the head and poison to ingest, if all failed. He then went to a high cliff facing the ocean, threw the stone and jumped. On the way down, he shot the pistol, missing his head but severing the rope, then he took the poison as he entered the cold water. A wave washed him up on shore, where he threw up the poison ... Fortunately for him, the water was so cold, he ended up getting his wish due to hypothermia

Texas: Two men wanted to rid their garden shed of a colony of killer bees. Their idea was to place dynamite next to the colony, run into their house and blow the bees to bits, seeing all the action from the kitchen window! Their plan started off well, and they were able to get into position. Unfortunately, the blast blew out the windows of the kitchen, sending glass chards everywhere, and letting the remaining, and by now very angry, bees into the house to finish the two off

Great list.  I can really relate to many of them.  Good luck to you and your wife.  My wife had her WLS about 3 months prior to me, just wait until she's on board and losing.  Things are really great (in more ways than one heh, heh, heh)
