What do y'all think? Doc says I can drive a car so.......... Laproscopic on 6/25 but I've had some infection problems. One site is still draining but I can handle that. It's a very large motorcycle- BMW R1200GS Adventure but I have no pain and have been riding all my life.

Any experience?

If you can drive a car and are off ALL pain meds why not? go for it.

I have a Yamaha Venture tour bike - 900+ lbs.  22 days after my surgery the wife and I left out with another couple and rode to Tellico Plains, TN. on a 3 day trip.  It's about 250 miles one-way. We rode the Cherohala Skyway while there. All in all it was about 750-800 miles  of riding during that 3 days.  I had to stop and rest more than usual, but did OK.   I was pretty tired when we arrived in Tellico Plains, and also when we arrived back home.  I will tell ya, it's not the riding as much as the stopping. My Venture is one heavy baby, especially when loaded with our gear and the wife and I. Holding her up at stops was much harder that soon after surgery, but not as bad as I thought it might be.

When I told the Doc about the trip I had planned, he was OK with it as far as the actual riding, but cautioned me that my innards were no where near healed and would be easy to rip loose in the event of an accident or if I dropped the bike.

It's doable, but you'll get tired faster and must be EXTRA careful!

I was told I could "drive" when I had my staples out. My Doc does that at ten days to two weeks. They took them out at 8 days for me, they were startng to get infected.

My surgeon gave me the offical OK to ride at my 2 week visit. Buttttt I had already went for a short ride anyway. I was sitting at home bored.

I have a H-D Ultra. I made a real effort to use my legs to when mounting it and getting it up to start a ride. Be careful and don't over do it. Listen to what your body tells you.
