forgot to ask the doctor
When I asked I was told that it introduced too much air into the stomach pouch causing discomfort in some and the possibility of streching. I've seen some WLS'ers use straws with no problem, just like some can tolerate carbonated drinks with no issues. I don't use them, although I never used them that much before.
I was given a straw while still in the hospital.
When I have need for one,
(soda or such from a fast food place)
I use one.
No Problems yet....
And I'm just past 5 years Post-Op
and 4 years at Normal BMI.
But, If YOUR Doc says NO,
Then don't do it.
(I would feel compelled to at least ask- "WHY?")
Best Wishes-
Dx

Capricious; Impulsive, Semi-Predictable
Hi Joe,
It is a thin backpack that holds water and you wear it like a backpack. It has a tube connected down into the fluid and can rest , for instance, over your shoulder. When you need fluid, doing anything, you just put the tube in your mouth and draw in. Used a lot by runners and distance riders and I guess, thirsty people ;-).
