The Thunder Rolls
... literally. Ever farted while riding a bike?
In all of her glorious wisdom, for my upcoming 40th birthday, my wife bought me (and ordered one for herself - they didn't carry the x-small W version in stock) a new mountain bike.
I've already put probably a couple miles on it in the four or so hours I've had it.
SHe bought me a Giant Boulder SE - grey on black.

Got a cool Freestyle helmet with it .. matte black.
Gotta love it!! Can't wait until I gain more of my confidence back and can do some long-ass beat-up and sweaty rides.
So .. here's one happy nearly 40 year old re-learning how to ride a bike!

I assume you are talking about the Iowa state Fair which rolls accross the state from west to east. My brother did it last summer and said you start by dipping your rear wheel in the Missouri River and end dipping your front tire in the Mississippi. He said it's the largest (by number of participants) bicycle ride in the USA and that towns accross Iowa bid to host the nightly rests. He talked of having Amish food, taking a shower in a car wash, and remarking how Iowa is not flat. Among his pictures was one of the people in the ride where they take up the entire road and stretch back as far as the eye can see. Last year, Lance Armstrong took part in it. Other than single day or weekend rides, this sounds like a good goal for a lot of you who are now into bicycle riding.
That is great man!! I tell you I am very quickly becoming addicted to my daughter's mountain bike. It started out riding to "stick it to the man" (OPEC and Exxon). Then it became errands. Now I use it for exercise, endorphins, and to just get around in general. I have gone from exercise to exercise and from sport to sport trying to find my ideal exercise. The bike is it for me. With a bad back I am sort of limited in what I can do. The problem I face...because of the fires up here in Northern California...I hate to ride in the smog. I went up to Boise a few weeks ago...Wow...I mean fart...what a great bike town. I hope you get into the bike, but if not, I hope you find your niche exercise. Brian
Brian There is a bike Co. called Electra and they make all kinds of retro style . One is called a townie you might check it out . You are not so bent over because of the way the bike is made you sit more upright .

Handlebars in sex? I think I just peed a little in fear.
Giant makes some GREAT bikes. I'm really impressed - it handles my 270 lbs with no problem. Last bike I rode I bent the rear wheel like it was made of tinfoil.
Across the state of Iowa? That's awesome. I don't think I'm quite ready for that, I'm still gaining confidence in riding. But maybe someday I'll attempt a ride like that.
There's some awesome single and double tracks here in the OC. Hell, for that matter, just riding along the bike path on the beaches here is going to be awesome. They have a great bike path from Bolsa Chica state park to the Santa Ana river (about 17 miles) that I may attempt in about a month with my wife.
I should say, she got the women's version of this bike, but they had to special order it for her. She's short (5') so they had to special order an XS frame for her. she calls herself Munchkin for a reason.
I'm off to bed now, I have the 70-290 test in the morning for Windows XP. I'm going to ride for a half hour before I go.
