It's been a LONG time

It has beena long time since I have posted on this board, or any board.  I had surgery on July 5, 2005.  I started at 336 lbs (at 5' 10") and got down to 190 lbs.  I have put 20 lbs back on, though, to get to 210.

I had plastic surgery about 3 weeks ago (June 24) to remove my excess skin/fat.  I have a few questions for any other guy that may have had the Tummy Tuck surgery.  How long did it take for you to be happy with the results and actually notice a weight difference?  I am not happy right now with the results and my weight is about the same as it was when i went in, even though the doctor says that he took off about 15 lbs of skin/fat.

Thanks for any thoughts you can give me.

Sorry, can't help you.  Just wanted to say "Hi" and that I am 5' 11" and was 300#.  Got down to 190.  Then, like you, have gone up and have been staying around 210.  We had a blow up on this board a few days ago.  Alot of old timers left and have moved on.  But others are here and they'll answer soon.  Brian

It took a good two months for me.  They took off 11 lbs on my second time around.  You have to remember, it takes 6-8 weeks minimum for swelling to completely go away - sometimes longer.

I had my 'tummy tuck' done on May 2nd, and was just released for exercise about a week and a half ago.

Good luck!

It all depends on the amount of fluid they gave you during surgery.  It can take months to get rid of that excess fluid.  Also when they perform a Tummy Tuck there is a lot of work done to the muscles and skin.  They have to perform liposuction first to separate the skin from the muscle.  Then all the work to tighten up the muscles in the abdomen and to tighten up the skin.  All this surgery results in a lot of "trauma" to the abdomen, which translates into fluid retention.  This fluid will not be reabsorbed by the body until healing has occurred, which can take quite a while.  Have you talked with your plastic surgeon as when to see the final result of the surgery?

On another note, be careful about exposing your new incisions to the sun, use a strong sun block if you do go out.  This new skin is very delicate, like a baby's, exposure to the sun can make the scars very visible for the rest of your life.

Good Luck, I hope the finial results are what you had pictured in your mind.

Congrats on your weight loss and welcome back to the board. I had 2 rounds of PS a year and a half ago to remove the ab skin and pannus. Went into PS at 215 pounds, came out at 220 (fluid) and 6 months later, was back to 215. My doctor only took about 5 pounds of skin in total so the PS didn't really affect my overall weight.
