I have been working out a lot trying to lose the weight for my surgeon. I weigh my self today and was a little scared. My weight was 280. You would think yay I'm losing weight, however I'm 6.4 and scared that surgeon won't do surgery anymore. I have done it before and I know I will gain it back. I just need the tool to always maintain weight loss. What should I do? By the way thanks for all your guys help in my previous questions.

Working out does not necessarily help you lose weight, as you build muscle, which weighs more than fat.

As for your weight, at a height of 6.4 that puts you at a BMI of about 34, whi*****anada would not qualify you for WLS. In the states things are different, and I believe the mighty dollar rules, so you might get a surgeon to operate at your BMI.

If I could give you my humble advice, if you can avoid the risks of being 'sliced and diced' by WLS, and lose the weight the old fashion way, you might be better for it.

Perhaps the veterans on this board can give their input, as I am a relative WLS newbie...

I had the same problem with the pre-op weight loss required by insurance I was on the fast track to disqualifying myself even with all my co-morbidities. I had to shut down the diet and exercise for the good of the big picture. I know its a bummer and nobody in the medical community would tell you this do to ethics.

I just had my surgery and it was a lot to go through. I had the sleeve gastric surgery... let me put it this way i am 5.7 and my weight should be 130-179 in the normal size my weight got up to 278 lbs and my lost was 194 5 years ago. My weigt befor the lost was 224. since 2000 i have went from 194 to 278 with no sight in end and my health was in danger. i need to repair a hernia so the doctors said i need to be at my normal weight so the repair can be fixed.... my weight is 226 just under 2 weeks from my surgery and i two had to lose weight to shrink my liver to make the surgery smoother. and at the time of my surgery my weight was 241.... So in short if you dont have medical problems it might be best to try to hold off the surgery if you are young.... it is not good to yoyo your weight, however if you can change your diet and exercise more and keep to it and just loose weight then it is best.. PS we all are eatting mechians... hope this works for you.

If you're working out and eating less.. You are loosing weight... No, question about it. Muscel weighs more then fat.... So more then likely you're seeing increase muscle when you get on the scale. Do let it through you off keep what you're doing......... Remeber your goals and remember how hard you worked to get here... No matter what the Doctor says.... You can keep it off surgery or not though I know thats our ulitmate goal for all this hard work...

My Doc told me it was the initial weight that qualified you for surgery, if your BMI drops below the usually accepted number for WLS due to the pre surgery required weight loss, this will not disqualify you for surgery.  Talk to the staff at your doctors office.
