My Friend's Neighbor, The "Unpatriot" (A Commentary)
I have a new friend from online that I buy a lot of used car parts from on Ebay ... He lives in an upscale burb across the lake from me and sells the parts out of the garage of his home there ..
I went to visit my friend for the first time in person to pick up a part yesterday .. While I was there I noticed a very nice home just a couple of doors down from his. What made me notice it was that this home has a new American flag mounted on the front of it by the front porch and, quite disturbingly, the flag is hanging upside down.
I asked my friend what was up with those folks .. Perhaps they are new immigrants and don't realize that their flag is upside down? Do they not know that flying the flag in that way is not only a sign of distress but, IIRC, actually illegal if not in distress? He told me that, although they are immigrants (from Afghanistan, he believes) they have lived in the U.S. for many years now ..
I don't know what his neighbor's problem is with our country or the government (maybe protesting our presence in their "home country"?), but they should NOT be disgracing our flag that way. I was going to leave a little note on their door to let them know how offensive their behavior is (they appeared to be away at the moment), but was short on time getting back to the office. Besides, I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't already been hearing from displeased good citizens. I have heard of some vets actually getting violent when they see a flag being flown in disrespect like that, not to mention upset members of the Boy Scouts of America quickly cluing them in to their gaffe.

That is pretty daring, they're being from another country and all. I would never do that with the Japanese flag living here in Japan. Hey wait, it looks the same upside down!
But in spite of this being a "non-Christian" country, everyone would probably turn the other cheek much better than is done in the US. No one would attack or even get visibly angry.
Best Wishes,
Dave
