Free Costco samples!!!
Does anyone know where this is headed?? Yeh...America, the God-given right & freedom to be stupid. Went to Costco today. Two of my biggest downfalls pre WLS were Costco samples and smorgasborg/buffets. I tried almost everything they had to offer today. Add to that strong coffee pre and post Costco. You know what can be worse than dumping? Not dumping. Stomach churning but I'm ok now (10 hours later). Just because something is free (and food costs have risen so much) doesn't mean it is wise and useful. I feel like a teenager making stupid mistakes. Brian
Hey Brian, I can help you on this one. I work in the culinary field and have a friend who is a chef at cosco. The free samples you have trouble saying NO too are usually the items that are just shy of being past their desired consume date. They give out the stuff that is about to go bad. So it may not have anything to do with your WSL that gets you sick, it is probably just the rotting food they are giving you for free.
By the way, I am still waiting on my approval after being denied twice and am now in appeals. I lurk here on the mens forum often, but am trying to keep my 2 cents to myself untill after WSL.
Mellowmen,
Feel free to be an active participant, the only requirement for joining in is that you are male. Since you are waiting for insurance approval, you have started the journey. Most times when one guy has a question, other people also have the same question, so don't be afraid to ask anything. Amazingly, someone always seems to have some sort of a response.
Good luck with the appeal process.
Jim
Brian,
That kills me also. I either go in with a bottle of water or go in late after the sample people have packed up. I know a single mother that has a couple of kids and when money gets tight, the samples are her and the kids lunch.
As a pre-op I was also addicted to the buffets. Now I go and get some to go, usually only a 1/4 pound and it costs me less than 5 bucks.

I don't find the buffets to be a problem because I only go to ones that have a nice selection of seafood. I eat the seafood and maybe some vegetables. That's it. I simply don't have the desire for the other stuff. I don't overeat at meals--my problem is "cheating" between meals. I love shrimp, and if I can get a shrimp lunch or dinner for a reasonable price, I'll go for it.
