Yam City Triathlon Race Report

Race number 18 and triathlon number 11 officially under my belt.  I didn't get to ride my new pimp bike (http://www.team464.com/trekequinox95.jpg) for Yam City but doesn't matter because I still had a great race.   I finised 40ish out of 150 overall and 30 something of 80 or so in the male division.

Like the Jefferson's used to say... "I'm movin' on up!" slowly but surely to place in the next decade or so.  Heh heh.

Race report is at http://www.team464.com/yamcity2008/

Congrats on completing another race.  Glad to hear that you have both of your socks! If you do enough of those 1 sock events, you just need to make sure you buy all 1 brand/style, so you can start pairing up the orphans. Scott

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!

I have a new 'no socks left behind' rule.   I HOPE to never have to abandon another sock on the course.   Nutrition and a race belt pouch stuffed to the brim with toilet paper will hopefully facilitate that.

You're a true inspiration.  Keep up the good work.  You'll soon be riding that new bike.  With any luck, you'll eventually have a few bikes.  I know my brother got an incumbent for training when he has back problems.  One of the guys on his ride is actually going cross country on one.  I can see that in the midwest but I can't even imagine it going up the rockies.  So, you swim, bike, and run.  Is it always in that order?  Most men would be happy if they could do any of those exercises for the distances you do each of them in a triathalon.  And, I mean most men--not just most post-ops.  You've become an elite athlete.

Thanks for the kind words sjbob.   I surely hope to have an arsenal of bikes one day.   One for every day of the week or at least every training scenario.  :)

Triathlons are pretty much always swim, bike and run in that order.  Sometimes in the winter you'll see a reverse triathlon where the order will be run, bike and then swim.   They do that mostly because the race directors don't want you to turn into a popsicle on the course.

There's also another multisport called adventure racing thats gaining in popularity that incorporates canoeing instead of swimming, mountain biking instead of road biking and trail running instead of running on roads.   A lot of times the adventure races will have obstacles or mystery events on the course.   I've always wanted to do one and probably will in the future.    The closest thing I have to an adventure race on my race schedule this year is a race called "Holy Toledo" which is a race that's dubbed the 'toughest event in the South'.   A portion of the event is through some very steep hills along a power line route in north Louisiana.   There is a part of the race called the "Pit of Despair" and there are several "Pits of Mild to Moderate Depression".   Who can pass up a race like THAT?

I'm sure that Holy Toledo will be my biggest challenge of the year.   Just like the tri I did last month it's just under a half-Ironman distance at a 1 mile swim, 40 mile bike and 10 mile run.    Should be a blast!

Check out their website.  It's funny to say the least.
