Thank ya Chad. The ride was everything I dreamed it would be when I made it my number one goal after WLS. Kind of your Kona IronMan!  By the way, Tim Deboom and a bunch of other world class triathletes live and train here in Boulder. I catch a glimpse of them every now and then as they blow by me on their bikes on the way to Lyons, Colorado. Obviously, they are "well-oiled machines" when it comes to fitness.    Boner

Wow!  I know those mountains are tough because I was reading my brother's blog when he was doing them.  He was amazed that they had 2,500 riders in your event.  That alone must make it tough going on the mountains.  I suppose you got a break from some of the wind by drafting.  He said the worse thing was when he was doing a climb going into a headwind.  I can't believe you didn't take a day off.  You train in the Rockies so I just assume that you knew about the need for almost constant hydration in the dry air.  Plus, the altitudes can knock you for a loop.  I hope you are inspired to do this ride again and to look for other rides.  I don't think there can be many that would be any tougher.  Great going and I'm glad that you're safe and abe to continue posting with us.

Thanks SJ, the ride was awe-inspiring as I imagine your brother found out. The canyons get windy and are usually blowing against you or so it seems. I don't draft since I'm not that good of a cyclist to stay six inches off someone's back wheel so I just "slog" it out.  There was a cap of 2000 riders of which 600 didn't make it one day due to the wind, climbs and the 95 mile route. The 600 riders ended up in the dreaded SAG  "meat wagon." It was a tough day and I rerode the toughest 65 miles of it on my day off. It kicked my ass the second time around as well.  Boner

Way to go Boner that's gota feel great . BTW I got the tour de fat socks and other stuff . THANKS  I will wear the socks with pride when I go to Ragbrai.  The hill just outside the main gate , were I work is a steep one . It's 1.1 mile long and has over 450 ft climb in elevation . I have hit speeds of 52 mph , and had a very bored police officer pace me down the hill . The speed limit is 45 . When we got to the bottom of the hill he stoped me at the light and told me I was going 52 mph . I looked at my computer and said ( by golly your right ) and road off . He did not follow .  Best wishes  Nick
