Maybe instead of me getting out of the hot kitchen, you learn some manners and state your opinions and cite your facts without being aggressive and insulting. Do you think you can handle a calm, adult conversation? I won't say others were out of line, but debating the topic with you is like a water fight without limits. I squirt you with a squirt gun, you turn the fire hose on me.
You are not the duodenal switch, you did not invent the duodenal switch and you do not perform the duodenal switch, so stop defending it like it's an ugly girlfriend.
Kinda reminds me of when I was an elementary school aged boy and me and the other farmer's sons used to argue on the playground over whether John Deere was better than International Harvester or Case. If your dad ran anything besides one of those three you didn't even get to join the argument. Like Massey-Ferguesson, Minneapolis-Moline, Oliver, or Alis-Chalmers could run with the big boys.....pffft. New Holland was OK for combines and ensilage cutters, but not tractors for sure. That's how damned impressive these DS-RNY-VSG arguments are these days.
And I was kinda torn. My dad ran John Deeres and my gramps ran Internationals. How the hell could I take sides? Except that Cases were for ****

The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.
This thread is pure entertainment. I think any surgery that puts you to sleep and gets inside of your mid-section to alter your digestive system in any way is "drastic".
They each have their pros and cons and they each have their different "statistics" but the bottom line is that they can all be successful if you use them the right way. I will say that the bariatric doctors I saw pre-op were always pushing RNY but the surgeon that actually did my surgery told me his choice would be VSG for most of his patients if insurance coverage wasn't an issue.
Do your research and figure out which tool will work best with your lifestyle and go with that one. All of them have the potential to work, it's a matter of finding out which one will work for you.

See, this thread has degenerated into something utterly and completely rediculus.
RNY, DS, Lap Band - who gives a rat's ass?
They're all very drastic steps that provide a way for us to gain control over a part of our lives that is out of our control.
This should be about supporting one another - helping each other deal with both pre-op and post-op problems. Not being a total dick and saying, "My surgery is better than yours, so nyaah!!"
Makes you all sound like fourth graders.
I had RNY. That doesn't mean that my RNY would have been any better for Scottie than Scottie's DS would have been for mine. (Sorry, Scottie, not trying to single you out, just trying to make a point.)
Everyone on either side of this debate is just as bad as a lot of newly baptized non-smokers trying to tell everyone else how to quit smoking.
You all just need to shut up already and just get on with getting healthy!
I have only been on this site about 3 months and this is the first time I have seen such a vehement disagreement on the type of WLS procedure. I don't know if all DS'ers are this rude and hypocritical or it it is just the two I have seen here or maybe it is just a couple of people who want to ruin a good forum.
Anyway I will reserve making my opinion until I get more data.
Forgot to mention I studied Lapband, VSG, RNY, and DS before I made the decision to get surgery.

OMG! I think the point I was trying to make and the reason I left the Ontario Board was that I am sick and tired of debating WLS or hearing about what surgery is better and what is worse. Personally, I agree with those who believe that all options should be presented to patients beforehand, and it was a shame I was not given the opportunity. Now I have the WLS the good Lord ultimately decided was best for me, and I am will make due - It was a gift that is giving me a second chance on life!
I decided to come here to get away for the bickering, not to restart it. You guys are a great group and I would be sad to see things ruined for the silly fights elsewhere - I am even sorry I started this.
