Got it today...  It's a Trek Equinox TTX 9.5 and it's the bike I will ride in the Florida (or Hawaii) Ironman 2009.   It's ALL carbon!  Frame and everything else.    I'm bummed I can't ride it for the race Sunday because my crank isn't in yet but I'll be on it next week fo' sho!

Nice bike, but need sunglasses with that RED!!!!!! color. Bit spendy for me (Looked it up on Trek's website).  But I can't wait to get a bike and start riding in a few weeks.

Dave, my brother is riding cross country on a 2009 Motobecane Immortal Pro which he got from www.BikesDirect.com .  Their price is $1,295.95 including shipping and the bike lists for $2,595.  They say it is comparable to a Trek that goes for the same list price.  Look at their site for a wide variety of bikes.  You may want to go to a library or bicycle shop and read bicycle magazines before making a purchase.  Bob

I've actually done quite a bit of research, and other than going and actually sitting on one / trying them out, so far I'm leaning towards the Giant Rincon - a good balance of durability and price (less than $500). I don't want to go nuts on one until I know what my riding habits end up being.  Besides, I'm more looking for single / double track than road. I'm going to check out that site, though - looks cool from a cursory glance.

That is one very good looking bike Chad. Good luck and give 'em hell.

I checked on the link and looked at your bike.  The handlebars appear to be of a compound nature--one set for leaning on and another more conventional set.  And, where is the rear view mirror?  I'm just curious because it looks so radical.

Yeah, the aero bars are carbon just like the frame and forks.   Riding on the straight bars (where the brakes are) is more for in traffic or in areas where your speed will be fluctuating.   During races and training runs with no traffic I'll be on my aero bars the whole time.   The whole bike, wheels and all weighs 15 pounds.  Speed and most importantly COMFORT on the road for very long distances are what this bike is about.

I guess I could put a rearview mirror on it but I would get picked on unmercifully by my peers in the tri club.  A rearview mirror is only going to create additional drag which will in turn slow me down and trust me I need all the 'less drag, more speed' I can get.  They do make a little rearview mirror that attaches to your glasses or helmet.  I even attempted to make one for a long ride I did a month or so ago.

"The whole bike, wheels and all weighs 15 pounds.  Speed and most importantly COMFORT on the road for very long distances are what this bike is about." That seat does not look comfortable to my big butt.
