"Mail Order Brides" - Good Or Bad Idea?

I was wondering what ya'll experiences have been with them in the past. I have two good buds that used them.  One ("Frank") was totally ripped off.  Turned out the "service" was really a guy (or guys) just scamming for money, claiming to be a service in Russia.      He sent pics of some beautiful gal and spent hours talking to my bud online and had him totally fooled.  Frank finally realized something was up when supposedly the gal was coming to the U.S. to meet him and claimed to be stuck at an airport and short on money.  She sent him an email asking him to Western Union her enough $$ to complete the trip.  (she even sent a cellphone cam pic supposedly of her holding up a sign that said "Help me Frank" on it from the airport, to convince him she was legit - the name insertion was apparently a Photoshop job) ..  Turns out there is a website where you can report bride service ripoffs, post pics of the phony gals, etc. on it.   Frank looked and sure enough "her" pic (and the "agency") was all over it.   My other bud "vip", was a shuttle pilot for Delta, and also used a service in Russia, outside of Moscow.  This one was legit, though.  He flew to Russia to meet the gal (a beautiful blonde veterinarian, btw) and her parents in a small town outside Moscow.  She agreed to return to the United States with him on a visa.  However, after she had been here a few months living together with him he realized it just wouldn't worked out (apparently the language and cultural differences were too much for her) and he dumped her.  I assume she had to then return to Russia when her temporary visa expired.    The secretary to the dean at our law school in K.C., "Carmen", was an attractive gal from Calli, Colombia.  Turns out there is a mail order bride service that solely features gals from Calli.  I joined it back then just to see what they had to offer.  The service claimed that gals from Calli were the most respectful to foreign men in the world, in part b/c they are treated so badly by the native men.  I certainly found that to be the case with Carmen.    She would take the time to walk down the hall slowly with you while talking to you, and would really treat you like a king.  I thought, "wow, if they're all like that, sign me up!"  I got second thoughts later on though when I realized that Calli was one of the top drug capitals in the world and some of the gals might be involved in that business.  I just didn't want to take the risk of being made a "mule" and then getting bumped off over here later on.      Anyway, what do you guys know about these services?

Run away. The only thing worse would be to go over to Tuna Town and announce you're available. You're trying too hard. Stop looking, and you'll be awash in wimmin. It goes against all logic, but it's true.

You seem to have a good paying job. Why dont you go to Vegas for a few days. Visit the Mustang Ranch and take the edge off.

Work is for those who don't know how to fish.

Atty, Truly, it seems you are “looking for love in all the wrong places.” Sounds like you’ve got a bad case of the ‘lonelys.’ Get out.  Meet and Greet.  At work, Shopping? (the gals love to shop) Join some clubs?  Church?  Take a class? ...like Art? “There’s a lid for every pot.” Hitting up on someone with even the slightest shared interest Can yield in results. Know that by the mid-30’s, Most folks are dragging enough baggage to make it trickier. Just relax and don’t force it. There’s a soul-mate out there waiting on you to find them. The whole notion of “bride service” or “mail order bride” is a little more than creepy. Don’t get desperate and slip into something That will bring you down even more. Hope “The One” bumps into you in the mall, And that you recognize her instantly. Best Wishes- Dx

[oop, edited to add answer to original question... BAD IDEA.]
