Kicked my ass

Well I did it. I actually went to the gym. It took me years to get a membership and two months once I had oone to go. For Father's day I went to the gym. Mind you it was only 15 minutes on a bike. But I got in the door. I asked for help to get a trainer and on recmendation from my physical therapist did the bike while I wait for the trainor to be scheduled. I do not want to hurt myself right off the bat. Exercising has to work for the long haul. I have several physical limits due to weight and past car accients and need to take it slow. And walking is not an option right now due to a bone spur. Tick me off. I would actually love a tredmill right now. THAT sounds so bizzare! Today I also wait to get the phone call on whether I am accepted into a program for gastric bypass. That is not even the damn insurance comapny! Just will this hospital's program label me a good candidate for surgery based on what felt like a 100 page (actually 6 pages) medical and weight hisitory.  Thanks for the inspiration guys. I can not believe some of you are running in races!! And started out so much heavier than I. Reading this site blows my mind about the possibilities.  Marc

You are right, slow and steady is a good start.   If you ease into it slowly enough, you won't even be very sore.  Good luck with everything.

Congrats to ya!  Getting started is the hardest part - now just make it into a habit. Take it at a good, steady pace, progress slowly, and don't try to do it all at once. You are on your way!

Got call back from bariatric clinic. They will see me to take $500 and 3 appointments in one day to start process on July 28th unless they call me earlier because someone canceled! (Let some one cancel. I work very close by. Sorry for them good for me.) Two steps forward in two days. I am happy. Now to just make sure I do not need to take steps backlward because I push too far too fast. I have been known to be that stupid. When I make my mind up I can be a train with no breaks.  Thanks guys. Marc

I found that I started to exercise and as I started to loose more and more weight, I kept increasing my work out.  Now I am 2 months post op.  I do about 30 to 40 minutes of weight training 3 days a week, with a 20 minute cardio exercise.  The other days I will do 15 minutes on a bike and 45 minutes on the elliptical.  I will let myself take 1 or 2 days off each week.

Sometimes I will substitute pushing my lawn mower as my workout for the day.  I have gotten to the point where if I don't have some sort of exercise each day, I really miss it.

Marc, you are starting on a wild ride, it is amazing and wonderful.  After having so much trouble loosing weight in the past, it is amazing to be successful.  I have not felt this good in a very long time and I hope you have a similar experience.  It will seem like your surgery is so far off, but it will be here before you know it.

Thanks Jim, Wild ride might start EARLY. I just got a call and I might get that elusive first long appointment today!! That is more than a month early.  I had not thought of the actual idea of what it might feel like to be sucessfull. That could be really strange in and of it self. Now if I can get myself back to the gym and make it a habit! Marc
