Hey brothers,  I had my initial consult with Dr. L in Michigan, and as part of my pre-surgery requirements I need to lose 20 pounds.  How did you guys do it? Any suggestions? Angus

Vanderbilt put me on a Carnation Instant Breakfast - No Sugar Added Liquid diet.  A pack of CIB in 1 cup of skim milk 6 times a day.  I added a spoonful of Splenda too. I didn't get hungry on it and it worked.

How long were you on the CIB diet?

I looked at the diet/lifestyle i was going to have to live after the surgery, and I ate that in the exact portions that I would have to post surgery.  The weight just came right off.  That and walking.   So basically protein, protein, protein. Good luck. Scott

I started using CIB as a meal substitute in February. I would have a CIB for breakfast at 6 a.m., then another for a snack around 9:00 a.m., then for lunch at noon, and then another for snack at 3:00 p.m. Then I would eat a Healthy Choice dinner or equivalent for dinner. 8 days before surgery, Vanderbilt puts you on a strict liquid diet of CIB shakes and clear liquids.  It really did work for me.

I weened myself off the 150 Ounces of soda a  day slowly and cut out all caffeine carbs candy and sugar 2 monthes before surgery. by three weeks before I was at zero cokes, jus****er and G2. Dr only required a 1 day liquid diet I did 4, lost 11Lbs in 3 days on the liquids. Losty a total of 28 pre-op from approval to surgery(2months). The liquid diet and exercise will know it off quick, I was also walking 2+ miles a day the entire 2 months.

Because of where my weight was located, I had to start my pre-op diet 1 month before surgery.  I had a M.V.P. protien drink for breakfast, one for lunch, along with a "sensable" supper.  I was also allowed a M.V.P. snack each day.  I was able to drop more than 20 lbs pre op.  I hope that helps.

Eliminated sodas. cut out bread.  lost 37 pounds over 6 months.  My insurance required a 6 month mdeically supervised diet.  Had to vist my PCP every other week for 6 months and had to detail what we talked about and my weight BP blood glucose. Rich

My doc didn't have a specific amount of weight I had to lose, but he did want me on straight running liquids for 7 days pre-op, and clear liquids the last 2 days.  IIRC I was on moslty tomato soup, cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, apple juice, tomato juice, and protein shakes. I lost 13 lbs in those 7 days.
